Bears Give Oregon State a Scare but Fall in Hoops Opener

Cal gave Oregon State something of a scare in the late going Wednesday, but the Bears ultimately came up short in their season-opener, a non-conference matchup on the Beavers home floor in Corvallis, 71-63.

Cal cut what had been a 14-point Oregon State lead with 7:30 left to a five-point deficit in the final two minutes. But that is as close as the Bears could get.
