Men's Basketball Adds Game to Schedule

Cal has yet to announce it, but the Bears have apparently added a men’s basketball game against Cal State Northridge Saturday at Haas Pavillion. Tipoff time has yet to be determined.

Head coach Mark Fox indicated after Sunday’s victory over USF that the Bears could add a local game to the schedule. It has been reported by various outlets that the Northridge game has been set, and it is listed on the ESPN website’s national schedule.

The Bears’ scheduled game Tuesday at Boston College was canceled Wednesday afternoon. It was originally to be part of an East Coast trip that included another as yet unannounced opponent, but that school, whoever it might be, is dealing with some COVID issues.

Northridge is 3-2 this year, and in its most recent game lost to Stanford, 82-71.

Cal is still holding out hope that guard Jarred Hyder, the transfer from Fresno State, could be declared eligible this season. Hyder’s original request for a waiver of transfer rules was denied. But the NCAA could change its policy, enabling Hyder to play immediately.

Fox said on Sunday that Hyder has sustained an injury in practice, so his immediate availability is uncertain.
