Mia Mastrov Joins Cal Women’s Basketball
BERKELEY – California women's basketball has announced the addition of Mia Mastrov to the roster. The Lafayette, Calif., native is eligible to play the remainder of the season.
"We are thrilled to have Mia join us for the spring semester," head coach Charmin Smith said. "She adds perimeter skills and talent to our roster that has been decimated with injuries. This is also an excellent opportunity for Mia to get a head start on her collegiate career on the court and in the classroom."
A 5-11 guard, Mastrov graduated early from Miramonte High School, where she was a three-time all-state honoree. She also earned first-team all-league selections in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, was named the West Coast Jamboree Tournament's Most Valuable Player her sophomore year and garnered first-team All-Northern California honors the last two seasons. Mastrov crossed the 1,000 point threshold last year and had a big sophomore season when she averaged 16.6 points and 6.4 rebounds while scoring a total of 531 points. Overall, she averaged 12.7 points and 5.5 rebounds during her prep career.
Mastrov's connection to Cal runs deep as her grandfather, Bert, played basketball for Hall of Fame coach Pete Newell and the Golden Bears in the 1950s, and she has attended Cal games since she was little.
"I am super excited to join the team and help in any way possible," Mastrov said. "Having the ability to join early is a huge opportunity in the long run and I'm ready to get to work!"
