In another week of spring high school football, a handful of Cal commits and offerees displayed stalwart performances for their squads, highlighted by two Cal commits, Lu-Magia Hearns‍ and Justyn Martin‍.

2022 Commits

Once again, three-star 5’11 DB Lu-Magia Hearns‍ was a walking highlight reel for De La Salle in their 48-10 win, returning one kickoff for 44 yards, then catching an 82-yard touchdown pass where he showed off his blazing speed. Then on defense he helped finish California HS off with a 48-yard pick six. Hearns is a stud athlete and has been extremely productive this senior year, with multiple touchdowns, interceptions, and big-time plays. He’ll be fun to watch once he gets to Cal.

2021 Recruits

Four-star QB commit Justyn Martin‍ threw for an eye-popping eight touchdowns in Inglewood’s 70-14 thrashing of Muir High School in Pasadena, tied for second all-time in CIF Southern Section history. His first was for 68 yards on a deep-route, and his longest of the day was an 80-yarder. Martin has excelled in the undefeated team’s RPO system, showing effectiveness on short check-downs, deep routes, and even running. His greatest asset is of course his arm strength.

In the nearby LA suburb of Santa Ana, four-star WR CJ Williams‍ caught three receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown in Mater Dei’s 49-13 win over Santa Margarita. Williams has thirteen receptions for 184 yards and three touchdowns on the year, and has shown to have outstanding footwork, route-running and blocking ability. Speed is a slight concern.

Three-star 6’5 OT Danny McGuire‍ made some nice blocks in Marist’s 13-0 win over Nazareth Academy in Chicago. McGuire is a 6-5, versatile offensive linemen that can line up at guard or tackle. He has shown to have a good low center of gravity and does well in the run game.

Three-star 6’4 DE Andrew Savaiinaea‍ provided four tackles and two TFL to go along with two receptions for fourteen yards in The Dalles’ 44-0 loss to Redmond in Redmond, OR. Savaiinaea is a versatile player, able to make an impact as a lineman or at tight end. He gets off the ball fantastically and blocks the edge really well.

Four-star 6’0 CB Zeke Berry‍ had a nice pick in De La Salle’s 48-10 win over California HS in San Ramon to put them at 5-0. Berry lined up at safety in a double-high, and made a nice adjustment from the middle of the field to the sideline using his speed and vision to make the interception.

Three-star 6’2 athlete Braydon Brus‍ had himself another good defensive day with fourteen tackles (six solo, eight asst), two QB hurries and two TFL in Glendora’s 35-0 loss against Ayala in Chino Hills on Friday. Brus can play WR and RB but is being recruited as an ILB by Cal.
