Loss to UC Riverside Shows How Far Bears Have to Go

Where do we even begin?

Cal's 74-66 season-opening loss to UC Riverside was ugly in every way. We knew this would be a rebuilding year, but losing at home to UC Riverside? A team that went 7-21 last season, and just 5-11 in the Big West Conference? A 14-point underdog heading to Berkeley?

And "losing" is putting it mildly. The Bears trailed 40-21 at halftime and never got closer than eight points in the second half. This was domination by the Highlanders from start to finish.
