A week after De La Salle’s stunning loss to their first NorCal opponent in 30 years after falling to St. Francis the prior weekend, Cal defensive end commit Jaxson Moi‍ and his Cathedral Catholic squad rated #1 in the San Diego region traveled north to take on the mighty Spartans.

Cathedral Catholic looked like they were potentially on their way to another big upset of the Spartans after jumping out to a surprising early 14-0 lead but De La Salle stormed back in convincing fashion for a 49-21 victory over Cathedral.

Despite the Spartans running away from Moi’s strong side of the line most of the game, the 6-3/270 DE was quick of the ball and very physical in pursuit.

Following the game, Moi talked to Bear Insider about his Cal commitment and playing in the shadow of his future program.

“It was great. It was an awesome experience,” said Moi of being up in the bay. “Going against a great team like De Las Salle just shows you where you're at, continuing with what we need to work on. They’re a great team. Props to them. We made mistakes and we adjusted a littel bit at the end but not enough to pull through. We’ll bounce back, though.”

Moi was one of the early wave of June official visitor commits and has been getting close with the other members of his ‘22 class.

“We’re all a part of a big group chat,” said Moi. “I’m probably closest with (San Ramon Valley OL commit) Jackson Brown‍. That's my boy. But I text all the other guys and can't wait to meet them. I’m really close with Damonic Williams‍, too.”

Moi is part of a dynamic DL class, joining St. John Bosco DE Nate Burrell‍ and Bishop Alemany DT Damonic Williams‍.

“It's going to be awesome," said Moi. "I can already feel the cameraderie growing. Me and Nate just click so well together and Dom -they're just great guys and we're gonna make each other better.”

Moi’s relationship with Cal DL coach Andrew Browning was another draw to the Cal program for the 3 star DE.

“I love Coach Browning," said Moi. “He's like family.”

Count Cathedral head coach Sean Doyle as a big admirer of Moi and what he brings to the table.

“As a player, he's unbelievable,” said Doyle. "He's got a motor like there's no tomorrow. He’s so quick off the ball, with such great acceleration and a great drive to get to the ball.

“He's an incredible leader for our team, takes the defense under his wing and just leads the way.”

“I'm just really excited," said Moi. “I can't wait to get up there and be a part of something special and be great.”
