Jayda Curry Earns Fourth Pac-12 Freshman Of The Week Honors
SAN FRANCISCO – Cal women's basketball freshman guard Jayda Curry has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Curry joins former Golden Bear Kristine Anigwe as the only players to win the award four times in the first six weeks since the award was created in 2012-13.
Curry, who earned the honor three straight weeks to begin the season, takes home the accolades after matching her career-high with 27 points while shooting 61.5 percent from the field (8-for-13) and 66.6 percent from beyond the arc (4-for-6). Curry also grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists and tallied three steals in the Bears' eighth win of the season.
The Corona, Calif., native was sensational from beyond the arc against the Mustangs. She matched her career-best with four made 3-point field goals. It is the seventh time this season she has made two or more threes. For the season, she is shooting 35.8 percent from beyond the arc going 24-for-67.
At her current pace of 2.4 3-point field goals per game, Curry is set to finish the season with 72 made threes, which would set the program record for 3-point field goals in a season, breaking the record of 64 set by Jennifer Self in 1991-92.
For the season, Curry is averaging 20.3 points per game which is 17th in the nation and tops among all freshmen, also leading the Pac-12. Against Cal Poly, she eclipsed 200 points for the season.
The 8-2 Golden Bears return to action tomorrow when they host Saint Mary's at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday's game will be streamed on the Cal Live Stream. Fans can also follow the action via live stats which can be accessed at Statbroadcast.com.
