Simi Valley (Simi Valley, CA) High School OLB/DE Carson Mott was on campus at Cal yesterday and the unofficial stop in Berkeley met all his expectations and more.

“The visit went well,” said Mott. “The campus was impressive and everyone we met were super nice. The facilities were top-notch, especially the locker room and weight room.

“The best part of the trip was our meeting with Coach Wilcox. We really like what he’s doing with the program.”

Mott has some definite priorities helping guide his decision to his future home.

“I think that for me, the program I choose has to have a coaching staff that cares about their players on and off the field,” said Mott. “I want to know that they are looking out for us after football is over the way they looked out for us while still playing.

“I want to play for a program that has the potential to win. Campus life is also very important so the school has to be somewhere I feel at home. I've always dreamed about playing football in the NFL so I’m looking for coaches that can help make that a reality.”

As for the timeline, Mott isn’t in a hurry this early, though he’d like to get some clarity in a few months.

“I’ve only just started looking at my options but I’m hoping to have my top schools nailed down before next spring,” concluded Mott.

The 6-5/240 Mott had 41 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six sacks and 10 hurries in Simi Valley’s 10-1 season in 2021. He earned Defensive Lineman of the Year in the Canyon League in helping lead his squad to their second straight league championship his junior season. Mott also was a standout at the All-American Bowl combine this month in San Antonio.
