Former Bear QB Aaron Rodgers Is NFL’s MVP For Fourth Time

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Former Cal quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the NFL's AP Most Valuable Player delivered by Pizza Hut for the second season in a row and fourth time in his career with the announcement made Thursday at the YouTube Theater during the annual NFL Honors television show. Rodgers' four selections (2011, '14, '20, '21) make him the second-most selected player in the award's history behind only the five by record-holder Peyton Manning. Rodgers had previously been tied for second with four others (Tom Brady, Jim Brown, Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas).

– Led the NFL during the 2021 regular season with a 111.9 quarterback rating, 7.0 touchdown percentage and 0.8 interception percentage, while also ranking among the league's leaders in completion percentage (#3, 366-of-531, 68.9%), touchdown passes (#T4, 37) and yards passing (#10, 4115 yards) with his four interceptions the fewest among starting quarterbacks
– Selected All-Pro for the fifth time and first-team on the fourth occasion in 2021, while he was selected for the Pro Bowl for the 10th time

– Named NFC Offensive Player of the Month in December of 2021 for the 10th time in his career to join Tom Brady as the only NFL players to ever win 10 or more NFL Player of the Month honors, while he was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 15 for the 19th occasion
– Helped Green Bay to a 13-4 regular-season record in 2021 that was tied for the NFL's best and made the Packers the NFC's top seed in the playoffs before they were defeated by San Francisco in their first game of the playoffs in the Divisional Round
– Leads all active NFL players in regular-season touchdown passes (449), while he has completed 4651-of-7118 passes for 55360 yards and has a 104.5 passer rating to rank second among active players in all four categories over 213 games and 206 starts during his 17 NFL seasons (2005-21)

– Played two seasons at Cal from 2003-04 and completed 424-of-665 passes (63.8%) for 5469 yards with 43 touchdowns and 13 interceptions for a 150.3 all-time quarterback rating that is the best in school history
– Made a seven-figure gift to the Cal football program in 2019 that was used to improve the team's locker room and create the Aaron Rodgers Football Scholarship to be awarded each year to a junior college transfer like Rodgers, who came to Cal after one season at Butte College

Congrats Aaron Rogers!! What an amazing player and person. I very much appreciate his willingness to speak his mind even when he knows he will be attacked for his views, especially in places like (free speech movement) Berkeley. What an amazing football talent. I hope that Cal will one day have a QB who will approach A.A. Ron.

Stron poster, but not so stron post.

Yes, once Aaron a bear, he always be a bear.

But Aaron find more success in seasons when he rep Butte over seasons in which he rep Cal.

2010 = Says Butte = Wins Super Bowl MVP
2011 = Says Cal = Wins MVP
2014 = Says Butte = Wins MVP
2020: = No College Shoutouts due to COVID = Wins MVP
2021 = Says Butte = Wins MVP

I wasn't commenting on his hair. Just noting that Peyton Manning handed Rodgers his first MVP exactly 10 years ago, as he did with Rodgers' 4th MVP last night.

Rodgers was the first recipient of the MVP at the first NFL Honors ceremony. Before that, they'd just announce it at a press conference.

As a Cal fan who is not a Packer fan: I'd rather see Cal win the conference just once than see Rodgers or any other former player win MVPs in the NFL.

The value to Cal, or any other college team, of that NFL stuff is minimal at best. A college team would have much larger impact from sending 10 players to the NFL year after year than from one guy winning NFL awards or even Super Bowls.

Agree.

You'd think this dude could have won a conference title with Marshawn Lynch on his team.

He was a great QB but really came up short from my perspective.

Best Cal QB? Hardly.

I'd like to hear him explain it from his side because overall his tenure at Cal was disappointing relative to expectations at the time and even MORE disappointing given his success after Cal.

With every NFL accomplishment and accolade I just get more annoyed.

I hope it helps with our recruiting in some way, but every time his says he went to Butte CC I'd like to punch him in his mug.

Hey dimitrig - if you doubt/wonder if A. Rodgers is the BEST qb Cal's ever had, then I must question your ability to judge personnel at that position. I've been attending games since 1963, and was in school when Steve Bartkowski, Vince Ferragamo and Joe Roth were. All three exceptionally talented quarterbacks. And ... I myself played the position in high school. (not at their level) Rodger's is easily the top/BEST qb we've ever had. Roth is a close #2 w/Craig Morton, Ferragamo, and Bartkowski at the next level. Followed by Goff. Then Rich Campbell. Pat Barnes & Dave Barr are a step below these.

D-Trig, Aaron played at two *colleges*: Butte for one year and Cal for two. Most stud NFL players only played at one college. Why shouldn't Butte share the wealth of their association with Aaron? They probably need it more than us. Also, Chico isn't a random city -- It's where he was born and lived his entire life before Berkeley. I can understand that there is a sentimental connection to what Butte represents and though it's cute to not say college you were drafted from, he has mixed it up so I don't think we should bristle when hearing Butte.

Rodgers arrived at Cal in late July, one year of JC ball out of high school. Two months later, he had taken the starting job away from Reggie Robertson, one of our better quarterbacks. His learning/progress curve was off the charts. Who, since then, has done anything like that at Cal? Maybe Jared Goff.

Sixteen months after that, he declared for the NFL draft. His time at Cal was short. I wish he had stayed for his senior year; we might have finally been in a Rose Bowl.

Great quarterback. Great Golden Bear.

Congrats to Aaron for having the guts to tell the truth only after having been publicly caught in a lie and pilloried in the media for lying and hurting his team and then covers up his bad actions by supporting wacko health regimens and even more wacko conspiracy theories.
It takes a real hero to go this far.
