Bears Add First '24 Commit in Pasadena TE Camden Jones
The Bears kicked off their 2024 recruiting class today with the commitment of 6-6/225 Pasadena HS tight end Camden Jones.
The 3 star junior had the opportunity to visit campus over the summer and again for this year’s Big Game victory over Stanford before making his decision.
“The environment at Cal was crazy,” said Jones. “The stadium was packed out. It was really nice to see all the coaches and what it’s like on a game day.
“I really like the stadium and weight room and how everything is all together. And I love the campus and scenery and setting.”
The Bears got in on Jones early and quickly established a strong rapport with him.
“My connection with Cal started when I was a sophomore,” said Jones. “One day I met Geep Chryst and the next day they offered me on a facetime call. That was great. It was a shock. I was not expecting to get offered that soon. Ever since then, they’ve been in contact with with me since. I just felt a better connection with them than with all the other schools.”
Cal’s academic profile was a big consideration for Jones as well.
“Cal’s academics were big for me,” noted Jones. “I want to major in film once I get there and from what I’ve learned, they have a really good program there.”
“You guys got a great one,” said Pasadena OC Rob Maxie. “Camden's an amazing kid. Always open ears and closed mouth. Very coachable kid and a very hardworking kid. When he first transferred over to Pasadena, he had some things to work on so before practice, after practice, he put that time in to work on and better those skills. He put in a lot of time on Jugs machine and became a very reliable pass-catcher for us. And one of his strengths is also his run-blocking ability.
“He’s a very tough, hard-nosed kid. The effort he puts into every play is crazy. Wish I could have him for more years. He’s the kind of kid you want in your locker room, one of those guys who wants to be the example setter and set the tone for the team.”
The Bears beat out Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona State, Colorado and more for Jones’ commitment.
