And congratulations to the Cal coaches and players. You are really doing a great job talking to players in the portal--all high quality players--and telling them what Cal football is all about.
Bears Add Florida Edge David Reese Through the Portal
The Bears continued to stay busy with the transfer portal, adding Florida edge grad transfer David Reece during his official visit this weekend.
The 6-1/240 OLB/edge was a 4 star 2018 recruit out of Fort Pierce Central (Fort Pierce, Florida) High School with offers from Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, Miami and more but he battled with injuries much of his time at Florida, totaling 15 tackles.
"We're excited to add David to our roster and look forward to him making solid contributions to our team,” said Cal head coach Justin Wilcox.
The Bears hope to capitalize on Reese’s return to health and his athletic potential to add pressure off the edge and give the Bears’ pass rush a boost.
Reese will be a spring enrollee and after the 2023 season is expected to have an opportunity to petition for a medical redshirt to gain a seventh season of collegiate eligibility, much like former Cal DL Luc Bequette. He becomes the Bears’ 11th portal addition and 21st new 2023 addition overall, joining 8 prep and 1 JC transfer in the ‘23 class.
Stay tuned for more from Reese as available after his official visit.
