Jones Talks Cal OV, Names Top 6
6-3/285 Bay City, Texas defensive end Carlon Jones is a high target for the Bears and the big DL took an official visit to Cal last weekend. The 3 star wrecking ball already holds 25 offers, including Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, TCU, Utah ASU and more. The Bears were the fourth of five official visits for Jones, having already tripped to Nebraska, Oklahoma State and TCU, with a final visit planned for Georgia Tech this weekend.
“Cal is a very nice environment,” Jones said after the visit. “I really learned a lot from Coach Browning. The coaching staff there all were cool. Benji (Palu) showed my family a lot of love. The players were real cool, too, and I got good feedback from the players' panel.
I also like the academic standards and the resources and networking capabilities.
“It’s a great program.”
As a junior, the first team all-state player put up big numbers, adding 102 tackles, 13 sacks and 29 TFL in 2022. He was also all-region on the hardcourt as well.
The time spent with his potential future position coach particularly resonated with the talented DL.
“I think he is brilliant,” Jones said of Browning. “He gave me tips on how to study my film for games I really like him a lot. Of course I would play for him. He can teach me a lot.
After the visit, Jones named a Top 6 that included Cal, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, TCU and Oklahoma State.
As for when he might be making a decision?
“I will be making the decision in July after I do my final evaluation,” concluded Jones.
