The Bears picked up their second official visit weekend commit and third weekend commit overall with the commitment today from Pacifica (Oxnard, CA) ATH Dayton Aupiu‍. The 6-3/175 safety joins RB Jamaal Wiley‍ from the weekend visitors as the latest Bears’ commits along with the announcement that Stanford grad transfer OL Barrett Miller‍ will be joining the program as well.

“My visit with Cal was good,”  Aupiu said. “I liked the way they run their program and how all the coaches will push you to be the best you can be, on and off the field. I spent time mostly with my host Nohl Williams, who’s from the same high school as I am so that was good. We actually grew up together.”

“As for why he committed?

“I’m looking for someone to develop me on and off the field.  What made me commit to Cal is the way they develop DBs and what they could do with my skill set there. "

As a soph starter on varsity, Aupiu had 2 interceptions with another pair nullified by penalty along with 10 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. Offensively he had 15 receptions for 142 yards and 2 TDs. The 3 star ATH also holds offers from Penn State, Purdue, BC, Washington, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, WSU and more.

Aupiu becomes the eighth official commit for Cal’s 2024 class along with Wiley, OT Tyler Knape‍, TE Camden Jones‍, WR Trevor Rogers‍, DT Michael-Anthony Okwura‍, ILB Eze Osondu‍ and safety Brooklyn Cheek‍.

Video is interesting. He did benefit from some poor QB decisions. But he has a "nose for the ball" and I really like his aggression not only in tackling but his desire to "go up and get it". I think he'll do well here and am glad to see him coming!

Smooth athlete and great ball skills. Good nose for where the ball is going and so much more athletic than the competition in the film.
