As much as the California football team has tried to develop Sam Jackson V as a pocket passer over the summer, the last thing that the Golden Bears want is for their newly named starting quarterback to lose his instincts as a scrambler and runner.

Two days after alerting the team that Jackson will be the starter when Cal pays at North Texas on Sept. 2, Bears head coach Justin Wilcox made the official announcement to the media Thursday.
