Bear Insider Podcast: Rod's Pod - New Era In Cal Hoops

This was a great podcast. Best of all, having Theo co-host. This program is on a MASSIVE upswing. Love that they let Rod fire the Cannon, and I think he's right about none of the players every going up there. No time to do it. Each team should make a pilgrimage to Tightwad hill, I feel. And operate the Cannon. At least spend a half up there, to check out the view and gel as a team. Would be great. Would be great if we started a tradition of having all of the teams go to a basketball game and do something there, too. Someone mentioned doing halftime "knockout." What if the whole football team did that? Crowd would go nuts. We need to have these two teams shine, and build enthusiasm in any way we can. Seems like a win/win/win.

I LOVE the rawness of this pod. It's just feels real.

We need more RAW and REAL in Cal Athletics

Rod nailed it. His report on the MBB scrimmage a few weeks ago mirrored what we saw on the floor on Monday night v St. Thomas. He said something like "everything about the program is better and has me excited" He also came very close to saying that this is a 20 win team. His assessment included Tyson's involvement who apparently was "throwing down windmills with ease" in the scrimmage. Tyson's explosiveness plus Kennedy's defensive presence probably adds a ton to what we saw Monday.

Yeah, it's not fun hearing that Rod was the only player invited 2 days before Randle's HOF Induction by a donor---not the AD. And if he hadn't gone and brought some bball friends there would have been zero bball alums there. But it's important to know this so change can happen.

I honestly don't understand our Athletic Dept. The failure do to the most basic acts is mystifying. Eric McDonough posted a pic at opening night with a banner showing Lars, Joel, Kuany and Alajiki. Embarrassing.

Yes that was sad to hear. Man, Randle wants to be involved so badly. He's around here so much. Great honor for him, but the fact that no one knew about it is pretty rough.
I saw that he was being inducted into the Cal HOF , but maybe on a facebook post 3-4 days prior. It seems like they could have done a PR blast weeks before, and sent out emails to BBall alums and ticket holders/previous ticket holders/anyone who's bought tix ever through the ticket office. This would have cost, what? $0-500 in labor?
I'm going to the game on Friday. I'm actually excited about it.

I just caught the radio postgame show, but Theo is surprisingly good for someone with very little experience. Pretty articulate and it's clear he knows the Xs and Os way better than some other color analysts who haven't played the game at a high level.

We're really quite spoiled to have Paws and Theo doing color.
