No. 3 Bears Clinch Share Of Pac-12 Championship

BERKELEY - Halfway home.

The No. 3 California women's gymnastics team achieved part of its conference goal Saturday, clinching at least a share of the 2024 Pac-12 championship with a 198.100-197.700 victory over No. 4 Utah at Haas Pavilion. That sets the Golden Bears up to capture their first-ever outright conference title next Sunday when they visit No. 24 Stanford at Maples Pavilion.

Reigning Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week eMjae Frazier had another jaw-dropping performance, recording an all-around score of 39.750 to give the Golden Bears (13-3, 6-0 Pac-12) at least a share of the conference championship for the third consecutive year. Cal has never won an outright regular season conference title in the 50-year history of the program.

Frazier won or tied for the victory on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise to tie for the third-highest all-around score in program history. Frazier now either holds outright or shares the top three all-around scores ever at Cal - including singularly holding the No. 1 mark ever of 39.825, which she set last week during Cal's victory at UCLA.

The Bears' team score of 198.100 is also tied for third all-time at Cal - the Bears also set the program benchmark for highest team score (198.400) last week against the Bruins.

Junior Maddie Williams finished second in the all-around, tying her career-best with a 39.625. She shared the uneven bars victory with Frazier and senior Gabby Perea, part of a team bars mark of 49.725 which ranks second all-time at Cal. Freshman Kyen Mayhew and junior Mya Lauzon shared the vault title with two Utah gymnasts.

The Bears won the team competition on vault and bars while the Utes took the balance beam event. The teams tied on floor.

Sunday's meet at Stanford begins at 2 p.m. and will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
