Given that we will be on Wilcox's 4th OC in 8 years, the offense gets a lot of discussion, but despite the long tenure of the defenses coaches, the defense has been worse lately, as the stats above show.

agree, for a guy who is supposed to be a defense guy, the defense has not been all that good

Sirmon?? how much is he responsible?? hope that this improves as the offense may be OK this year, but a porous defense will make it hard to be winners

I would surmise that the defensive coordinator is very much responsible for the success of the defense.

MLB is a key position in the defensive scheme, and on paper Cal is very little depth there. If Sirmon has another kid who can play like Jackson, let's get him on the roster.

Bringing him in as a grad transfer from UW was fine, great really. Cal then hyping him with Wilcox choosing him (a kid he has known since birth) as one of two players to bring to media day after a couple months on campus reeked of nepotism. Usually Wilcox chooses based on seniority in the program, which I don't agree with, but if you are going to hype your best player (and we should) then 100% Ott should have been there. Sirmon being there seemed like favoritism, hopefully only to me and not to the rest of the team.

Sirmon was a good player regardless what you think of his dad. Also good character kid. I hope he makes the NFL.

All of that misses the point.

We are all rooting for Jackson to make an NFL roster.
