First Wave Of 2024 Spring Transfer Portal Signees Announced

The California football team announced its first wave of 2024 spring transfer portal signees on Tuesday with DL T.J. Bollers (Wisconsin), TE Corey Dyches (Maryland), WR Kyion Grayes (Ohio State), ILB Liam Johnson (Princeton), OL Braden Miller (Michigan State), OLB Serigne Tounkara (Missouri) and DB Jasiah Wagoner (Oklahoma) joining the Golden Bears.

Tuesday's seven additions increase the number of players in Cal's 2024 recruiting class to 37 with additional members expected to be announced at later dates. The class currently includes 20 transfers and 17 coming to Cal directly from high schools.

Below are notes on each of Tuesday's additions.
 TJ Bollers‍ – DL – 6-2 – 290 – R-Jr. – 4th – Tiffin, IA (Wisconsin/Clear Creek Amana HS)
– Played in 18 games over three seasons at Wisconsin (2021-23) for teams that compiled a 23-16 mark and reached three bowl games, including victories in his first two campaigns over Arizona State at the Las Vegas Bowl and Oklahoma State at the Guaranteed Rate Bowl with his 2021 freshman squad finishing 9-4
– Ranked as high as the nation's No. 3 weakside defensive end and No. 105 player overall in the 2021 high school recruiting class by Rivals


 
Corey Dyches‍ – TE – 6-2 – 220 – Sr.^ – 5th – Oxon Hill, MD (Maryland/Potomac HS)
– Played in 39 games over four seasons at Maryland (2020-23) and totaled 107 receptions for 1,193 yards and nine touchdowns, with each of his final three teams winning bowl games over Virginia Tech (Pinstripe Bowl), North Carolina State (Duke's Mayo Bowl) and Auburn (Music City Bowl)
– Earned third-team All-Big Ten honors as a 2023 junior after being second on his squad with a career-high 49 receptions for 491 yards and two touchdown grabs following an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick as a 2022 sophomore when he caught 39 passes for a career-high 494 yards and three touchdowns
– Ranked as the No. 6 tight end in the 2024 transfer portal by On3


 
Kyion Grayes‍ – WR – 6-0 – 190 – So. – 3rd – Chandler, AZ (Ohio State/Chandler HS)
– Spent two seasons in Columbus (2022-23) with a pair of squads that combined for a 22-4 overall record and a 16-2 mark in Big Ten play with his true freshman squad winning the conference before falling by a single point to top-ranked and eventual national champion Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Peach Bowl
– Contributed career prep totals of 59 receptions for 1,098 yards receiving with 14 touchdown catches at Chandler HS despite being limited to only 15 games due to injury
– Ranked as high as the nation's No. 8 wide receiver and No. 63 player overall by 247Sports in the 2022 high school recruiting class


 
Liam Johnson‍ – ILB – 6-0 – 225 – Sr.^ – 5th – Moorestown, NJ (Princeton/St. Joseph's Prep)
– Played in 29 games over three seasons at Princeton (2021-23) with his squads combining for a 22-8 record and a share of an Ivy League title in 2021
– Registered career totals at Princeton of 177 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss (-29 yards), 3.0 sacks (-26 yards), two interceptions that he returned for 92 yards and one touchdown, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries that he returned for 89 yards and one touchdown, and one blocked kick
– Named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and was a first-team All-Ivy League selection as a 2021 sophomore when he picked up career-highs of 90 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss (-18 yards), as well as 1.0 sack (-8 yards) while scoring both of his career defensive touchdowns on an interception that he returned for 92 yards against Penn and a fumble recovery that he brought back 89 yards against Cornell

Will McDonald‍ – OL – 6-2 – 295 – R-Sr.^ – 6th – Matthews, NC (Coastal Carolina/Porter Ridge HS)
– Played in 51 games over five campaigns at Coastal Carolina (2019-23) for teams that combined for a 44-19 overall record and 27-13 mark in Sun Belt contest while winning one Sun Belt East Division title and another co-division crown, reached four bowl games with a pair of wins while a third was cancelled due to COVID-19.
– Started all 13 games at left guard as a 2023 redshirt junior and earned third-team All-Sun Belt honors to highlight his lengthy list of awards for a team that finished 8-5 overall, 5-3 in the Sun Belt and defeated San Jose State in EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl
– Helped 2023 squad lead the Sun Belt and rank tied for 24th nationally in fewest sacks allowed per game (1.31)
– Started all 13 games (first starts of his career) as a 2022 redshirt sophomore for a team that finished 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the Sun Belt to win an Eastern Division co-title and a spot in Sun Belt Championship Game before falling to East Carolina in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl


 
Braden Miller‍ – OL – 6-6 – 310 – R-So. – 3rd – Aurora, CO (Michigan State/Eaglecrest HS)
– Played in three games all off the bench over two seasons at Michigan State (2022-23)
– Earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as a 2023 redshirt freshman
– Ranked as high as the nation's No. 80 offensive tackle in the 2023 recruiting class by On3 Industry
– Older brother, Barrett, spent his fifth and final collegiate season as a starting offensive lineman at Cal in 2023 after playing his first four campaigns at Stanford


 
Serigne Tounkara‍ – OLB – 6-2 – 235 – R-Fr. – 2nd – League City, TX (Missouri/Clear Springs HS/Clear Falls HS)
– Redshirted the 2023 season in his lone campaign at Missouri for a team that was 11-2 overall, defeated Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl and finished the campaign ranked No. 8 in the final AP Top 25
– Ranked as high as the nation's No. 52 defensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class by On3


 
Jasiah Wagoner‍ – DB – 5-11 – 180 – So. – 2nd – Spanaway, WA (Oklahoma/Spanaway Lake HS)
– Played in seven games in his only season at Oklahoma as a 2023 true freshman, including each of the final five regular-season contests, for a team that finished 10-3 overall, 7-2 in the Big 12 and played in the Valero Alamo Bowl, while being ranked No. 15 in the final AP Top 25
– A two-way prep player who contributed 96 receptions for 1,421 yards with 17 touchdowns as well as 44 rushes for 326 yards with three touchdowns on offense, while on defense compiled 120 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks (-3 yards), seven interceptions that he returned 150 yards, eight passes defended, one fumble recovery and 34 fumble recovery yards, and three forced fumbles
– Ranked as high as the nation's No. 31 cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class by 247Sports
