Bears Add the Last Piece of their 2024 Class With WSU Transfer Forward Spencer Mahoney

The Bears picked up the last piece of their 2024 recruiting class with today’s commitment announcement from Washington State redshirt freshman forward Spencer Mahoney‍. Rated 4 stars as a prep recruit from Xaverian High School in New York City, the 6-9/230 forward national transferred to powerhouse program St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey, for his senior season. before choosing WSU over Syracuse, St. John’s, Texas A&M, Harvard and more before signing with the Cougars in 2023.

“Spencer is a really talented player who will space the floor and knock down shots from a variety of spots,” Cal head coach Mark Madsen said. “His size and length will make our team a more versatile unit. Our staff is very excited about what Spencer is going to bring to our program – it’s great to have him wearing Blue and Gold.”

After graduating St. Benedict’s, the future Bear played a year of prep school ball at Red Rock Academy in Las Vegas, averaging 18 points and 6 rebounds per game.

Mahoney redshirted last season for the Cougars with forwards Jaylen Wells and Andrej Jakimovski and center Isaac Jones leading the Cougars in scoring in their standout 25-10 season last year.

The newest Bear have four years to play four seasons for the Bears. He joins Cal’s 11-man portal and recruiting class for 2024, joining returning center Devin Curtis and guard Vlado Pavlovic in this season’s roster.

Adding a big with a redshirt helps our depth and helps balance our classes and gives us a stretch 4

This looks like new uniforms (no lines at the sides anymore which I didn't like)

Welcome to Cal! Glad to get a big, strong guy to clog things up. Scouting report expresses mixed reviews about his mobility, so hopefully they can work on that aspect with plyos, drills to help activate the reaction time and balance. If he pulls that together the sky is the limit.
