Bears Get Their Top QB Target With Commitment from Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele

The Bears picked up a key piece of their 2025 recruiting class today as 6-3/205 Campbell (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) High School high 3 star QB Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele‍ officially committed to the Bears this afternoon in a video announcement livestreamed on YouTube. Sagapolutele jumped to the top of the Bears’ quarterback recruiting radar in recent weeks and his official visit made a good impression, going a long way towards guiding him to choose the Bears today.

“I just want to say thank you to all the schools that recruited me,” Sagapolutele said with his announcement today. “I’m just grateful to finally have this decision made. For the next 3-4 years, I’ll be committing to the University of Cal Berkeley. Go Bears!

“I would say it’s everything. They checked off all the boxes, for sure. The coaching staff is great. Coach Wilcox, Coach Bloesch and Coach Gibert, when I first got that offer, they were hard on me, continuing to keep recruiting me. Of course their offense is great and it’s a place I'm going to continue to develop to get ready for the NFL. I’ll be getting a great degree and I’m just grateful it’s the school I’ll be attending.”

After the future Bear’s official visit to Cal in June, it was clear they put themselves in a good position for the #1 rated player in Hawaii.

“Some things that stood out were that they have everything you need,” Sagapolutele said of his visit to Cal. “The coaching is great, the schooling is great and program overall is amazing. My relationship with the coaches is so amazing and my relationship with the players is just as strong.

“I’m looking for a place where I can grow my faith, a place where the coaches want me and I get along well with the players as well as a place where I’m not only going to grow just as a player but also as a person.”

As a junior, Sagapolutele completed 64.1% of his passes, passing for 3,757 yards and 37 TDs with 12 interceptions for Campbell.

Also an excellent student with a 3.75 gpa, Sagapolutel could potentially come in as an early entry after his senior season.

The high 3 star QB has been a rising target of late, with the Bears offering last month. The Hawaii native was named to the Elite 11 and shined there throughout the week. He held offers from Washington, Washington State, Colorado, Oregon State, Boise State and more before choosing the Bears.

Welcome to The University of California! It's a big get to have Jaron and the whole Sagapolutele family on board! Quick question, does his pops have any eligibility remaining? Because he looks like he could still play DE. Let's keep the Poly pipeline rolling in the Bay Area

Just a fantastic day!

As Biggins said, Sagopolutele has the best arm in the country, he killed it at the Elite 11s. Major kudos to Bloesch and Gilbert for landing our best QB recruit since Goff. This kid is special and can open up a pipeline from Hawaii. Would be great to follow up with a series with Hawaii as suggested in the video.

Holy moly I don't know anything about anything but his form, footwork and mechanics look amazing. He absolutely has a bazooka. Can't believe we got him!

His brother was the starting QB for Punahou a couple of years ago. He is the better prospect. I saw him on TV a couple of times. Has that same lefty frozen rope throw that reminds of Tua and Penix Jr. I'm excited for him and us!

Yeah, his brother is a red-shirt freshman QB at UH. In his commitment video he said he's hoping Cal plays Hawaii in the future and they face each other. I hope so too.

Gotta pray no big, deep pocketed program loses a QB recruit late because they will come after this kid hard. He improved so much between his sophomore and junior year and the best is yet to come.

Washington and others already have. His final 4 were the schools that pursued him early before he made the Elite 11 Finals.

Yeah although Washington offered him over a year ago, it was under the old staff and not clear if it was ever actionable. Glad we made the push to make this kid feel he was the one they wanted!

tape is pretty legit. definitely has the arm, the mobility and the elite athlete 'twitch' to him.

must find a way to keep him. it would be great to actually develop a HS QB in this day and age

I've been a Bloesch and Gilbert skeptic but this goes a long way toward convincing me. Recruiting is a huge part of the job.

Nice that he mentioned Rodgers and Goff.

Major kudos to Sebasta and the Cal Legends collective as well.
