The Bears picked up their second offensive line commitment from the portal this weekend with the flip of Stanford commit Tyson Ruffins to the Bears tonight.

The 6-3/300 offensive guard started nine games for Nevada as a freshman, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Week after his week one performance against SMU. He was rated an 89 by On3 in their portal rankings and was

Ruffins was a 3 star commit from Long Beach Poly after being named All-Section as a senior before committing to the Wolfpack and played in the All-American and Polynesian Bowls.

Tyson joins New Mexico State offensive tackle LaJuan Owens as new portal offensive line commits for the Bears today.

Stay tuned for more on Cal portal recruiting, with several other players joining the Bears this offseason.

I remember a few days seeing this guy commit and saw he was from Nevada and thought, that's the kind of transfer out of pretty much close enough to Cal's backyard that they should be bringing in. Young with a lot of eligibility. Cal really needs to stockpile linemen.

Curious - why didn't we recruit him right out of HS if he is good? You'd think we could out recruit Nevada for California talent. Did going to Nevada mitigate any scholastic or development issues?

I would guess he committed to Furd early?

He discovered that attending a junior university would be disadvantageous

I wonder if there's some under the radar/late developing types who start off in division 2, but have the talent to play at a high level in D1? Is that an untapped talent pool?
I know that some high school players from Canada get recruited to D1, but do some legit D1 candidates from there get overlooked?
Where are the inefficiencies in college football recruiting, and how can Cal best exploit them? Do you think that the future of top 40 teams' recruiting is mainly portal rather than high school?

look how much talent norcal had in the rivals and 24/7 ca state ranking and how much of it went to UCLA and Udub. not even talking about the elite talent going to bama, penn st, oregon.
