Owens Reunites with OL Coach Anae With His Commitment to Cal
The Bears added New Mexico redshirt frosh LaJuan Owens through the transfer portal this weekend as the program continues to rebuild and revamp their offensive line behind new offensive line coach Famika Anae.
The 6-4/335 OT originally signed with Tulane in 2023 as a 3 star recruit from Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas before redshirting his freshman season. He entered the portal and transferred to New Mexico with the departure of Tulane head coach Willie Fritz to Houston after guiding Tulane to an 11-2 record.
“I committed to Cal because of the university’s strong reputation for education played a big role and I believe Cal offers the best opportunities for my growth both on and off the field to get to the professional level,” Owens said after his commitment to Cal.
“As for Coach Anae, my relationship with him has been great. He plays the best players, which allowed me an opportunity to start 10 games last season and he helps me develop as player.”
Owens started 10 games at left tackle for the Lobo’s, earning a Mountain West Freshman Offensive Lineman of the Week award during the season in their win over San Diego State. He’ll have 3 years to play 2 seasons and will enroll at Cal in January and participate in spring ball.
