Bears Flip Michigan State TE Commit Mason Mini
The Bears added some young depth at the tight end position this week, adding former Idaho State frosh tight end Mason Mini to their 2025 portal recruiting class. Mini recently committed to Michigan State but when the opportunity to play near his hometown arose, the newest Bear jumped at the chance and flipped to the Bears.
Mini prepped at Pacifica’s Terra Nova High School, playing quarterback. Mini completed 55-of-95 passes (57%) for 1043 yards and 4 TDs and ran for 538 yards on 64 carries (8.1 ypc) and 8 TDs. He also caught one pass for a 43-yard touchdown as a senior. Mini also averaged 5.9 points and 8.7 rebounds on the hardcourt and hit .377 as a junior in baseball, taking his senior season off.
As a frosh at Idaho, Mini hauled in 5 catches for 61 yards (12.2 ypc) in 2024.
Mini will join CSM TE Simon Mapa in Cal’s 2025 portal recruiting class, essentially replacing departing tight ends JT Brynes and Cory Deiches after departing through he portal and graduation respectively.
