Jeremiah Wilkinson Earns Second ACC Rookie Honor
CHARLOTTE – California freshman guard Jeremiah Wilkinson was voted as the ACC Men’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced Monday. Wilkinson – who shared the weekly honor with Duke’s Cooper Flagg – led the Golden Bears to a home sweep of Florida State and Miami, averaging 24.0 points per game in his first two career starts.
The Powder Springs, Georgia, native exploded for a career-high 30 points, including 28 in regulation, in Cal’s overtime win over the Hurricanes on Saturday following an 18-point effort against the Seminoles three days prior. He and Flagg are the only two ACC freshmen to score 30-plus points in a conference game this season.
The rookie did most of his offensive damage from close range across the two wins, shooting 61.9% (13 of 21) inside the 3-point arc while knocking down 13 of 14 free-throw attempts. In nearly 36 minutes played per game as a primary ball handler, Wilkinson committed just three total turnovers in the two contests.
Wilkinson ranks fourth in scoring (13.0 PPG) among ACC freshmen and has scored double figures in 14 of the past 16 games.
Wilkinson was previously named ACC Co-Rookie of the Week on Dec. 2 following a 25-point performance in Cal’s win over Mercyhurst on Nov. 27. He and Flagg are the only two ACC freshmen to earn the weekly honor multiple times this season.
