In September, the Bears picked up a commitment from 4 star Top 150 PG Semetri Car‍r. The 6-0/170 4 star point guard averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in Branson’s playoff run season last year and was set to transfer to San Francisco’s Archbishop Riordan but his transfer was denied so he’s now attending Redwood High School in Larkspur - his local public school.

Carr led his Redwood squad to an exciting 49-47 NCS semifinal win over Amador Valley, hitting the tying and go-ahead free throws with less than a minute left then running down the clock after Amador Valley tied the game after hitting 1-of-2 free throws on the other end, hitting his teammate Jake Post on a cut to the basket for a bucket before time ran out, sending the 22-6 (9-1) Giants to the NCS D1 championship game Saturday at 6 vs top-seeded Dougherty Valley at Livermore High School.

Earlier this week, Redwood varsity basketball coach Jay DeMaestri told Henry Barker of Redwood Bark that Carr’s made a steady impact on the Redwood program with the senior guard helping the Giants to get over the hump against his former program after losing to Branson in the league championship game in consecutive seasons.

“We’re hitting a spot in our season where he’s really starting to figure it all out on offense and everything is picking up now that we’ve been doing it for a couple months,” DeMaestri said.

“He’s extremely athletic and a very good decision-maker with the ball. He’s just one player on a team, but especially when he’s rolling and catches fire, that’s definitely contagious. He also brings a level of calmness to everyone in the team room.

“At the start, [he] wasn’t as vocal, but [all of the coaches] have told him to take a leadership role. With him going to Cal, he will have to stand out in a certain way. Now that we’ve been doing this for a few months, in timeouts [and during] practices, he has stepped up and become an impactful leader on the team.

Carr is averaging 21.8 points per game and 10 rebounds per game and is shooting 82% from the line this season. A win Saturday would likely get Carr and his Redwood squad a trip to the state finals.
