Bears Add OL Experience With Jacksonville State OG/C Daveion Harley
The Bears added more starting experience on the offensive line with today’s addition of Jacksonville State offensive guard/center Daveion Harley through the transfer portal.
The 6-2/305 rising junior had eight starts as a soph, playing in all 13. Harley played 826 snaps, with the majority coming at center after initially playing right guard, allowing just 13 pressures and two sacks on the season for the Conference USA champs.
Harley took his official visit over the weekend without knowing what to expect with his first trip to the west coast and Berkeley.
“I really didn’t know what to expect but I knew it would be nice,” Harley said after his visit. “My experience there definitely surpassed my expectations. They have a really nice campus and facilities, giving that city vibe but also calm and natural.”
Besides liking what he saw of campus, the facilities and the bay area, Harley’s comfort level with his future position coach Famika Anae was another important factor in his decision for the Bears.
“Me and coach Anae clicked instantly,” Harley said. “I know we are going to have a good relationship just from how well we connected. I really wanted to consider everything throughout the process and really see what would be best for me and Cal was that. Just the opportunity to play here means a lot and I know being here is a part of my next chapter of growing as a person and player.”
As a prep, Harley chose Jacksonville State over Florida, Maryland and more in 2022. He’s the first offensive line spring portal addition for the Bears after adding five portal and two prep lineman in the early signing period.
