For the second straight weekend, the Bears garnered commitments from an amazingly high percentage of their official visitors and the first to announce their commitment publicly was Farrington (Honolulu, HA) High School interior lineman Koloi Keli‍.

“I just wanted to be a part of what coach Anae and the rest of the staff is building in Cal which is a poly pipeline!” Keli said after his commitment today.

The Hawaiian interior lineman also helds offers from Oregon, SMU, Michigan State, Arizona and more before choosing the Bears.

Stay tuned for more on Cal’s latest commitments coming soon.

Great track record for the Cal coaches. How are they pulling in all these recruits?

After decades of saying Cal should hire Poly OL and DL coaches from Hawaii and build a pipeline we are finally doing it (at least on the OL). We are geographically the closest D1 school to Hawaii with the shortest and cheapest airfares. Cal, UH, UCLA and San Jose State are the only D1 schools that are plurality Asian.

We should be trying to establish a long-running series with Hawaii.

Hopefully it becomes a self fulfilling loop where Poly players who come through Cal have a positive experience and serves to advertise that experience to future players so that they will also consider Cal as a (the?) place where they can go and thrive!

And Anae, and So'oto, and Benji, and (breaking with the Poly theme) Marshall has always been very good at his job.

But, more importantly, welcome to the Cal Family to Koloi! Let's get after it!

A perpetual home & home with Hawaii is the biggest no-brainer for us imo. Every other year your kids and staff get one of the greatest away game trips in CFB, away games at Hawaii always open up the ability to schedule games in week 0 and get extra rest down the line (wildly important to us with all the travel in the ACC and one more long trip wouldn't be overly punitive for us), because of the long travel to the islands Hawaii is treated as a free game where you're bowl eligible at 5-7 and (no offense to UH) is also pretty much a free win to pad the record, and the islands are probably the best per-capita recruiting ground in the country.

Just so much to like about it and way too many positives to ignore; it would be great for the guys in the Poly pipeline to get to play an islander game and would keep that momentum rolling. Plus we could use the annual Hawaii matchup to do a special edition Poly-themed Cal jersey which is the kind of things recruits love; and admittedly I do too, as evidenced by how often I make this comment and keep pounding the drum.

I'm pretty sure UC Los Angeles locked up a series with Hawaii basically as soon as realignment was announced but we should be working to swipe that from them
