This week, an unflattering report, another Cal great on film, Watchlist news, Allegri and Silver report, a ticket offer you can’t refuse, fall colors, a top Cal commit’s big day, and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Updated SP+ rankings for all 138 FBS Teams. Cal has some work to do.
The John Tuggle story comes to life in “Mr. Irrelevant,” a film coming to a theater near you on Christmas Day. After arriving at Cal in 1979, Tuggle earned a spot in the starting lineup in the fourth game, helping the Bears reach the Garden State Bowl. In 1980, Cal entered The Big Game as 15-point underdogs. Tuggle rushed 27 times for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also catching two passes for 37 yards as Cal upset Stanford 28–23 and ruined John Elway’s chance of playing in a bowl game. Though the ‘82 game is remembered mostly for The Play, Tuggle once again tortured Elway with 97 yards on 27 carries.
The last man drafted in ‘83 by the NY Giants, Tuggle played mostly special teams but earned a starting spot in week 12. He was diagnosed with cancer the following year and died at 25 years old in 1986. The Giants honored him with a helmet sticker during the 86-87 Super Bowl winning season and ESPN produced a 30 for 30 in 2013 to honor his life. I never saw a more emotional Bill Parcells.
Jordan King made the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Watchlist presented to the college player demonstrating exceptional leadership, courage and integrity. The award honors the type of exemplary character and commitment to community, family and teammates demonstrated by Jason Witten, the 2012 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year and one of the most prominent role models in the game.

Cal commit Dane Webber just posted his day in the life video for the 2026 season on YouTube. Widely considered one of the top 2027 signal-calling prospects in California alongside Ohio State commit Brady Edmunds, Weber announced his decision to play for the Bears in May.
Last night ‘Cuse went down to Pitt, 27-13. Pitt HC, Pat Narduzzi, pays a backhanded compliment to Orange HC, Fran Brown, in the post-game presser. It’s a time honored tradition to compliment the skill and grit of team you just defeated. Worse, Narduzzi, took a shot at Cal. See you in November, Pat.
