The Bears made a big splash with the first commitment of their 2027 recruiting class, adding 6-4/215 La Mirada shooting guard Gene Roebuck.
The consensus Top-45 player and consensus Top-10 SG chose the Bears in a tight battle with Gonzaga, whom he visited recently, along with Washington. He also holds offers from Kansas, Baylor, UCLA, USC, Virginia and more.
Roebuck visited Wasington on 9/11, Cal on 9/25, and most recently took an official visit to Gonzaga on 10/3. It was his second visit to Spokane after taking an unofficial there last November.
A three-year starter for La Mirada, Roebuck got off to a fast start as a freshman, averaging 24 points while being named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year. A strong sophomore season saw Roebuck average 19.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, shooting 52% from the field while being named All-CIF Southern Section Open Division First Team. As a junior, Roebuck averaged 22.5 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists per game while upping his shooting percentage from the field to 55% along with 82% from the line.
Roebuck brings Cal a player who can create his own shot and score at all three levels, averaging 37% from three. He also shot 42% from deep on the club circuit and 81% from the line.
