California football quarterback Jackson Brousseau has been named a Manning Star of the Week following his standout Week 6 performance in which he led the Golden Bears to a 25-20 victory over Virginia Tech this past weekend.

Brousseau, making his first start at Cal, was an effective 29-for-43 for 321 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions against the Hokies. Brousseau has completed 63.7 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions in parts of four games this season.

This is the first time in Brousseau’s career that he has earned the Manning Star of the Week distinction and second time this season that a Bear has been added to the weekly award list after Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele’s Week 3 recognition.

The Manning Award selected 40 quarterbacks for its Watch List in the preseason and will add additional quarterbacks on October 23. Finalists will be selected in early December, and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Serious question, does he have eligibility after this year?

Great guy who took a bit of a leap of faith coming to Cal behind JKS, very happy for him that he got to showcase his skills and get us a hard fought and much needed W.

Redshirt JR, so at least one more year.

Thanks!

He played capably at CSU. He's also a capable QB at Cal. Any program that needs a capable QB would be happy to have him. But I see this kind of like the 2005 NFL Draft, when the Niners went with the capable QB over the great QB. The capable QB will be a good game manager and won't lose games. But a great QB will win extra games.

(Jackson has proven he's a capable QB. Heck, he's arguably an above average QB. But he's not quite in great territory where he'll win extra games. Last season, Jaron showed he absolutely could win extra games. Unfortunately, Somerville's offense this year was so craptacular that JKS couldn't do anything but run for his life and get injured in the process. With McCann's offense, Jaron probably can win additional games for Cal, if healthy.)

Bill Walsh used to say, "The two most important positions on a football team are your starting quarterback and your backup quarterback."
