Joaquin Ruiz is a staff writer for Bear Insider. The 22-year-old graduated from Cal in July, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Media Studies with a Minor in Disability Studies. The Whittier native is also a sports correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, frequently covering the Dodgers, Chargers and several other Southern California teams. Previously, Joaquin was a Digital Content Writer and Editor for NBC Sports Bay Area and California, where he started as an intern in 2023 and wrote over 1,000 articles about Northern California's professional teams; simultaneously, as an undergraduate, Joaquin was the Cal Athletics reporter for The Daily Californian and KALX Radio.
