Give Wilcox decent players and .he would win. But, Wilcox cannot recruit Pac 12 talent at Cal. I'm not defending Him, with no players You lose to Wazzu and Udub. It's obvious.

Our overall recruiting rankings under Wilcox are the worst in my memory at Cal, but they are still better than the team that just beat us.

Cal is not USC, we need a coach that does more with less, not a coach that does less with more. Yet, even SC expects more from their coaches.

It's not the Coaches. There is no real Pac 12 talent on this this team.

And who is responsible for that?

We're in the Holmoe Zone now.
Technically, we are in The Dykes zone for now.

Year 1 or year 4 (or 5 for Wilcox)? At this point in his last year Sonny was 3-2 with wins over then -ranked Texas and Utah.

No, at this point Wilcox is Holmoe. Maybe he rallies and ends up 5-7 like Dykes in 2016 when he got fired.

People calling for Troy Taylor to be the next Cal coach are not thinking big enough. There is only one head coach that will do, and that is Coach Marshawn Lynch

**** it Aaron Rodgers as HC, Marshawn as OC, Tosh as DC, make it happen.
Tosh, lol
I'd take Tosh as HC right now.

Cal is the homeless guy whos kid is dying of starvation saying he has too much pride to take food from the guy who stole his parking spot 15 years ago.

What people seem to forget is it was Wilcox who hired Tosh, flipped Shaq Thompson to UW and sunk Tedford after Tedford had given both of them their first jobs in coaching.
Thompson has been gone for 6 years.

Tedford has been gone for 9 years.

I am not forgetting. I just dont care about who **** in what cereal bowl.

Why hire Tosh, with no head coaching experience? Because he is an alum and you think he will be loyal to us and not jump for more money if he is successful? HA HA HA HA
eh, I am saying Cal isnt in a position to look down its nose at anyone willing to work here.

And loyalty? Cal is not going to find a more loyal coach than a guy who left Cal and took its recruits with him. Cal is a pit stop to a real team or out of the Power5.

On the list of people who MIGHT be willing to come to Cal and MIGHT do well, and that Cal MIGHT be able to afford, Tosh ranks pretty high, and people are still mad about something that happened a decade ago.
LOL Literally every single other coach Cal has ever employed has been more loyal than Tosh.
But that's not the real issue. The real issue is there's absolutely no reason for Cal to hire him at this point, other than to do him a favor. His career is in flameout mode. He's no savior. If he were, he'd already be employed by a bigger program. Instead he's bouncing around the NFL (3 teams in 3 years), not using any of his supposedly awesome recruiting skill, and currently on a terrible team coaching a terrible unit.

That was a total disaster. When you read in the news that a great College Football Coach was injured at exercise of some kind, but everything is fine, and he will appear on the sideline to coach as normal that is smoke. When a special teams botch sends you to overtime and your game ends on a last play fumble, and that's just a hard football game, that is smoulder. When you repeat the special teams botch and the fumble first play out both times, the problem is the Coaching dumpster fire.

Dykes is the only coach (so far) at Cal to have no D1A (D1FBS) wins.

Holmoe never had a season with 0 D1A (D1FBS) wins.

If we are looking for the absolute bottom record, Dykes is it, and Wilcox is close to that than to Holmoe's Glorious 1 win season.

I am comparing coaches who have had 4 or 5 years to recruit and implement their system.

For Wilcox to be vying for that record in his 5th year is damning. That is what makes him Holmoesqe.

OSU plays like a well coached team, though I guess we looked better against UW too.

Fair enough. Your qualification makes sense.

I am not swayed though, unless Wilcox manages a win.

Wilcox right now doesnt rise to the level of that 2001 team; I think Holmoe recruited a stronger team than Wilcox has... and also won a damn game.

Yeah, Dykes tanked in his first year and then was mediocre after that. Wilcox started out mediocre and has now tanked.

Thinking this over, I think this means he is more like Gilbertson.

Rehire Tedford?
He is 59, and currently "retired". Look what he did at Fresno and Cal when he took over. He recently visited the Cal campus to "visit old friends". Maybe he got a call from someone to take a look at all the upgrades to the facilities and think about coaching Cal again? Doesn't hurt to start the rumor mill early. Go Bears!!

Wilcox hired Tosh? Or JT hired Tosh? Since when does a young position coach hire people to a football staff?

I don't remember all the details of Tosh's stint at Cal. But, wasn't he a GA that was later hired onto the staff?

It is my understanding that Wilcox was very upfront with JT about UW's offer and his intentions re leaving for UW due to the increased salary, opportunities, etc. This is hearsay, of course. But, it did come from someone that coached with Wilcox on that Cal staff. Is this not your understanding of how things happened?

Tedford gave Wilcox his first coaching job. While he was here Tosh was a player and later a GA.

Wilcox left and got coaching jobs elsewhere, like Boise State, eventually becoming a DC.

Tedford hired Tosh as his DL coach. Tosh became know for being a great recruiter. He and Wilcox stayed "close."

When Wilcox got the job as UW DC, he hired Sirmon as his LB coach and hired Tosh as his DL coach. Tosh famously, without telling Tedford, used Cal's last home visit with 5 star Cal commit Shaq Thompson to convince him to go to UW which Wilcox, Sirmon and Tosh followed up on with a "UW" visit and he signed with UW. Tosh also tried to convince the rest of the class to recommit from Cal, many ending up at UCLA.

I watched practice before the game. They tried two field goals I saw. The snap was bad and not putdown in both cases this is unbelievable.

"No" is a bit excessive. "Very little" I can go with.

Five Super Seniors does give me goosebumps, though.

I was at the game, wondering what was being said in this thread. I'm not even going to bother reading the thread.

That might have been the most pathetic four quarters of football I've ever seen at Memorial. It's like the team has given up.

Agreed. Watched on TV. Seemed the most uninspired performance, maybe not even interested performance I have ever seen with Cal football. Been going to games since 1969 (Texas, they lost 17-0). There seems to be no spirit, performance, interest, IDK. Go back to 2007 when Tennessee was in town and the place was rocking. Not sure how we go back to that, all I can add is this needs to change. Today was a HUGE disappointment and from a fan's perspective a big letdown. JMHO

I remember games like that where the outcome was decided and only a few of us loyal fans were left, i.e. Oregon 2012, Washington 2016, USC 2019, the difference from those games versus today is that we were not playing a team that was a juggernaut or had more talent than us, we were just absolutely pathetic and our guys looked totally disinterested in wanting to even compete with a lousy Washington State squad (they lost to Utah State for ****'s sake). Especially on an otherwise good Berkeley fall afternoon, this was galling.

I was bewildered why they would even show that clip, as I was looking around an empty stadium with no life.
