If Oregon's football program is a dumpster fire, what does that make Berkeley's program?

Could be a good thing for Cal.

1. He is a DC. Why would a team known for high powered offense want a DC as head coach?

2. He is really inexperienced.

3. Even though he did coach at ASU he really has no West Coast ties.

4. He is known as one of the best recruiters in the country, but I am not sure recruiting is Oregon's biggest problem.

I think he fizzles. Seems like a real reach for a school like Oregon.

Seems hard to believe that Oregon wouldn't reach higher than a DC who has never been a P5 head coach. It would be a real blow to their reputation as the premier program of the Pac-12 if the report is true.

Well, not just a DC who has never been a P5 head coach, but a guy who hasn't been a head coach ANYWHERE and just got the DC job in 2019.

This is the type of gamble Cal might (should?) take.

SHOULD take, when the time comes….

Of course, it won't happen because the guy doing the hiring has a phobia about creative thinking. He would be more comfortable with someone from Retread Tech…..
Yes. If Knowlton was hiring a new head football coach for Cal today, it might be someone like Matt Wells, who did fairly well at Utah State several years back, before being fired by Texas Tech a few months ago. That would be a very Fox-y hire for Knowlton to make.

But the delusional "fire Wilcox today" crowd must think Knowlton would hire the next Nick Saban.

You know he's from the south when you read this quote from the Oregon AD:

"We are excited to welcome Dan, Sauphia, Caden, Kniles, and Titan to the Oregon family!"

I was thinking someone like Charlie Weis but, yeah, Wells sounds about right, too.

Wasn't Chip Kelly a offense coordinator at power house New Hampshire before being hired by Oregon. I think so.. Kelly sure damaged their reputation at that time but it was repaired fairly quickly.

Besides everone know Oregon has 85 million to play with. This new coach is not getting all of that so they can afford to go shopping for a high octane offensive coordinator.

Belloti was the Oregon head coach who hired Chip Kelly from New Hampshire to be his OC. Kelly first was a huge success as Oregon's OC before the internal promotion to Oregon HC.

Exactly, Going outside your program to hire a coordinator who has never been a head coach is what you do if you are Cal or Oregon State. It's not what you do if you are the conference's alleged king of the hill.

Like when Oklahoma hired Florida's DC?
Cal Strong!
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Oregon AD was very stupid not to go after Tedford hard before he signed with Fresno State. It would have been a strong match. Tedford would have led that team to a Pac-12 title before leaving in 2-3 years because of health issues . . . at which point Oregon could have been at the front of the line for that year's coaching search.

Cal Strong no know much about Dan Lanning. But he no seem to have much experience or ties to either Oregon or the West Coast.

This seem like weak hire for Oregon. Strong news for Cal.

thanks for the new word, had to duckduckgo it..

I agree with you and I am also not going to bring up the shortcomings of other schools' fan sites. The inability of the fans on those sites to provide intellectually stimulating content beyond opinions related to football is not a topic that I think is worth mentioning.

I have to confess, I had to look up the meaning of "paralipsisi". None of my classes for three engineering degrees at Cal (or the management in Harvard) thought me that word. So, thank you for the education.

Before everything went paywall fans of teams used to interact. I've "known" people on this board for almost 20 years. Sorry if that doesn't meet with your approval. More likely you just don't like getting called out for saying something stupid.

Thanks. That was a good decision by you to not mention the posters that just contribute drivel. I used to post more often. I have visited the board recently to see what was happening with recruiting and the players entering the transfer portal. I am hoping recruiting ends better than where it is right now.
