Okay…..okay….I give up….I'll go along with all those BI sunshine pumpers that believe that Cal has a successful season no matter how many losses the Bears suffer as long as the Bears beat the furds in the Big Game!

I begrudgingly accept this viewpoint because Cal doesn't seem like it's going to the Rose Bowl or anything else championship-associated anytime in the near future. Although I do recognize that Cal could also have a super-duper season if the Bears manage to qualify for some sandlot post-season bowl!

But for now, let's just look at Cal's chances of having a successful 2022 football season.

As we all enjoy recalling, Cal murdered the furd 41 to 11 in the last Big Game!

Such a lopsided win bodes well for the Bear. It means that the furdies have the onus of making a tremendous improvement before getting up to speed with Cal, despite the bears' administrative and coaching foibles.

Looking at the QBs, sure Garbers is gone, but Wilcox the Wizard brought in two QB transfer portal replacements so the Cal offense shouldn't miss a beat! On the other hand, furd looks like they'll again rely on McKee. Although his passing yardage stat (239 yds) was not too far off Garbers' (250 yds), McKee didn't throw any BG TDs like Garbers, who threw for two. And, to date, it doesn't look like the furds will be getting any QB help from the transfer portal.

More important is the prospective run game; Cal's TBs (C. Brooks and Dancy) and Garbers destroyed the furd defense, but these backs are all gone now. But not to worry, Cal will have good talent (Street, D. Brooks, and Moore) to fill-in the backfield vacancies. Of course Wilcox the Wizard has gotten his latest talent in newcomer in **** Ott. Conversely, need I point out that making any improvement harder is the furd losing its two top TBs as transfers to BYU and u$C.

I know we all rightfully expect Wilcox the Wizard will be returning an experienced tough defense. This defense should be at least good enough to prevent the furd from making any radical improvement to its pitiful 43 total run yards in last season's BG.

Finally, Cal's piece de resistance, Longhetto, is returning! Remember he kicked for as many points (11) as all the points the furds meagerly scored in the last BG.

Regardless of the above, we fans will be able to surmise for ourselves if the furds have improved enough to be of any concern enough to start wringing our hands. I mean we can obviously compare scores against the same opponents. The furds, as well as Cal, will have played Notre Dame, u$C, the Ducks, UDub, Wazzu and the Beavs prior to their 125th meeting.

Who really cares about the other eleven games that the Bears play? I think it's clear-cut that Cal will beat the furds again in the Big Game; ergo, the Bears will have a successful season!

Boy oh boy, do I feel good! Cal really is going in the right direction!

Can you define "successful"?

To me:
6-6, disappointing
7-5, better than 6-6, but, …
8-4, now we are talking
9-3, I'll be happy
10-2, I'll be very very happy.

I am sorry t0 say it that my "uneducated" guess is 6-6, and if ball bounces out way, then 7-5!

Go Bears!

Agreed. And Stanfurd will be gunning for us. I hope Wilcox plays with a very, very limited playbook for all the games prior. This will maximize the chance we beat the Furd.

Yes, I'm saying a 1-11 season is considered successful if the 1 win is a Big Game victory for the California Golden Bears!

DEFINITION: "...Cal has a successful season no matter how many losses the Bears suffer as long as the Bears beat the furds in the Big Game!"

Cal Strong agree with Blueblood's strong implication that our fan base has weak set of expectations. We no hold our coaches, players, and athletics department to strong enough standards.

Furd recruiting was very strong this years, whereas ours was not very strong. This WEAK!!!!

One distinction: Cal Strong no think Wilcox a Wizard. Cal Strong think Wilcox a loser, because that is what his record says he is. But Cal Strong has always maintained that a Cal coach should not be fired in the same year he beats stanfurd. That doesn't mean Wilcox had a strong season last year. It just means we need to wait at least another year for him to either turn things around or lose to furd so we can finally fire him and his weak staff and replace them with coaches worthy of smoothies.

If all you care about it beating Stanfurd, next year could be great. I'd like a lot more than that, though. Should be fun.

Beat the Farm, $uSC, Ucla, and uO every season. That is enough.
OSu will be the surprise team in 2022. uU is no surprise.
Udub and WSu will take care of themselves.
Cu and uA have long rows to hoe.
ASu is going to lockup.

Wouldn't you say the same about Cal after 4 years with Chase Garbers as QB? A lot depends on Plummer being able to come in and hit the ground running.

That is enough. [You and I know that this isn't really true.]
OSu will be the surprise team in 2022. [Let's hope the Beavs don't surprise the Bears.] uU is no surprise.[Who cares? Cal won't have to play them next season.]
Udub and WSu will take care of themselves. [True, as these teams have proved such when having to play Cal.]
Cu and uA have long rows to hoe. [Again, true, as both teams have been putting a lot of time in their gardens in preparation for next season, especially at the QB position.]
ASu is going to lockup. [Lucky Cal doesn't play these clowns next season.]
