Someplace with table service. Alcohol would be appreciated but not absolutely necessary.

Yes! A great one. Another walking-ish classic, Venus on Shattuck, is still closed for dine-in. La Marcha would be my pick but need to drive.

Bette's closed!??? Wow. First Cafe Fanny and now Bette's! Those two places were huge part of what made a Berkeley weekend so special to me. Changes.

Not to worry. Bette's reopened as a co-op with the same menu. It's now just called Oceanview Diner.

And longtime Bette's cook has opened his own place that is terrific as well in San Pablo just south of Gilman across from REI: https://www.berkeleyside.org/2022/02/17/nuevo-sol-breakfast-lunch-burritos-berkeley

I have to echo La Note. There are many other solid candidates, but this stands out above the rest. May be a poor choice if you need a venue that's quieter or not crowded.

We love eating in Berkeley when up for games. Rick's and Anne's is (was?) a morning favorite.

Where we live there are a fair number of restaurants that did not make it through C-19. Are there any standbys in Berkeley that are gone?

Yes, wait could be up to an hour.

They have a nice garden patio for warm days

If the weather's good, pack a picnic and find a picnic table in Tilden. Far more memorable than any restaurant. Bring all the cheap booze you want!
