Here's hint; I can proudly say I threw some touchdown passes under the same light's that Casey Stangel managed & that Joe DiMaggio and Jackie Jensen hit home runs under! And the answer is ...?!

The current keyboard player of 8 years for SANTANA got his start with Tower of Power, when at just 23 years of age he replaced the original organist, Chester Thompson. - - - He traveled the world in the Etta James band for 25 years.

David Mathews was born in Berkeley and a Las Lomas alum, Class of '76.
He played catcher on one of my WCYAA Little League Teams.
He is a musical genius.

I will take THE HOUSE THAT RUTH BUILT for $200 Alex!

Jensen was supposed to be the heir apparent to Joe DiMaggio.
But then Mickey Mantle came along.

Joe's granddaughter, Kathy is a Las Lomas High alum, Class of '79
She sells real estate in Rossmoor. I last ran into her a few years ago at Calicraft Brewing in the Shadelands Office Park in WC after a fundraiser down the street at Tony LaRussa's ARF.

Here's the answer: Oaks Ballpark in Emeryville! Home of the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League. Many a future Major Leaguer played there! My dad grew up 6 -8 blocks from it and attended a lot of games there. He stuck around after some games & helped clean the place up. His reward = a free ticket to the next game! After attending the CCSF, he transferred to Cal. He was there from 9/48-6/51 and the ONLY games the Bear's lost during those years were the 3 successive Rose Bowls. He attended all 3! Lucky guy - wish I could say I saw them in one!!

Damn, I had a feeling that it had something to do with the Pacific Coast League.
I was having Kathy DiMaggio and Las Lomas on the brain.

Is a great shot of the train station in WC! I'm SOOO old that I remember it being there when I was a kid. Was next to a cement mixing co. - where Safeway is currently located.

I forgot to mention ... I saw Santana when he was in his prime - in 1974 at Kezar Stadium. Was a GREAT concert! I went to many, many Days on the Green concerts at Oak. Coliseum but none were as good as this one at Kezar! Was on 3/23/74 - was put on to benefit high school sports in SF school district.

I saw Carlos Santana play at this concert. Like Neil Young, he wasn't billed, but they showed up as a special surprise guests.

The Pac-10 headquarters was right next door in the Wells Fargo Building.

I would meet the secretary for Pac-10 Commissioner Hansen every now and then for a glass of wine.
She would always bring me all kinds of Pac-10 "schwag". Thank God she did, because a glass of Chardonnay at that place was $14 and that was back in 1993!

It was worth it though.
She got me free tickets to see Cincinnati vs Cal at the Oakland Coliseum and I was on the floor!

That was the S.N.A.C.K. Show. "Students Need Athletics Culture & Kicks".
Graham Central Station, Tower of Power, Santana, Jefferson Starship, Doobies, Grateful Dead, Bon Dylan and members of The Band.
Yes, I was there.

Okay, Boomers!

Just kiddin', I am one, too. My three cousins went to Del Valle. Youngest was in last graduating class (IIRC). I spent every Christmas Day and Easter in Lafayette, 1967-1977. Good times.

Wait, what about Idaho?

You "Silvers" are a tad bit older than me! We arrived in 1976, it seems most of you were on your way out of high school. I can hardly believe how much the "Creek" has changed. Looks more like Rodeo drive than the little sleepy town we moved to in the 70's. I do remember hearing stories about the 2 high schools Del Valle and Las Lomas and how they merged. What was the feeling about this merger?

There was no merger.
Del Valle closed in 1979 and the remaining students were sent to Las Lomas, Acalanes, and Campolindo.

The Acalanes High School District (Miramonte, Campolindo, Acalanes, Del Valle, and Las Lomas) was under financial budgetary pressure due to declining enrollment. Some of these high schools were down to just 800 students.

On a vote of 3 - 2 the school district board voted to close down the (newer) Del Valle campus in lieu of Las Lomas which was 8 years older. One of the reasons cited was that students at Las Lomas had jobs after school in nearby Broadway Plaza. Personally, I never knew a single student who worked there after school. Some have claimed that Del Valle got the axe because Rossmoor wanted it gone.

Thanks for the history lesson! I don't think are budget issues now......unless it's too expensive to have kids......

In mid '80's I was an AE for an ad agency. One of my clients-to-be was the Pac12. I made multiple visits to Jim Muldoon, it's Director of Public Relations. In 3rd week of Jan. 1986 he gave to me a couple of press row seats at Harmon for the most famous game in its history - I actually had season tix and was planning to go anyway but told friend I sat with that I'd be sitting in pac12 seats. Turns out the day before the game, Friday 1/24/86 I was in major car accident and ended up not being able to go. In fact, I knew nothing about it until my dad came to hospital afterwards holding up sign w/game's final score!!

Myself and 12 buds got in entrance line at 6am - ended up sprinting to middle of the stage, about 20' from it! Had 4 good size blankets and watched great bands play from 10a - 5:30p! Marlon Brando& Willie Mays even made speeches! Started to rain around 4:30 - but it didn't matter! No one cared! My day's highlights - and there was a lot of em - was when Grace Slick & Jefferson Airplane sang White Rabbit!!

Las Lomas High Grad Class of 1983
Pinky's is the best! I miss the old dark brown decor and bench seating! When I do go back, I always stop by and have salami pizza!

Dan Lilly is the owner.
He's a good man.
Class of '86

Taking a moment to catch up on various posts, came across this one. Even though I live in Reno, I felt compelled to respond because of a few commonalities to this thread other then enjoying Pinky's.

Family moved to WC in the 60's
Las Lomas HS grad class of 1983
Danny Lily was mentioned, relevant because we were next door neighbors growing up.
If I'm correct- Trumpanzee, since I only recall one wrestler going to Idaho to wrestle, I'm thinking you and I worked together at KFC and you drove me home form our graduation party…after I had a few too many? Feel free to let me know if I'm correct or not.
Diablowags, you would have been at LL same years as my sister as you both graduated in 1978.
Anyway point is that it's a small world and CAL football is a great way to bring us together. GO BEARS!!
