Get some alumni ****s to fill in this week. Just an idea!
Agreed. And the distraction of the USC/UCLA defection to the B1G is no excuse. All Knowlton had to do was DELEGATE the hiring of a dance team coach to one of his numerous overpaid subordinates with a few instructions (maybe specifying no lifts or gymnastics since there's an injury case pending) and a budget. Heck, I bet there are dozens of former Raider or 49er dancers in the Bay Area who'd jump at the opportunity to coach. This was not that difficult.bipolarbear said:This notice should have been posted last spring. Jeez.bearsandgiants said:okaydo said:

For those interested in supporting the spirit team currently cheering on our players and fans, The Bearettes are currently in a fundraising campaign part of the university's crowdfunding platform. They've increased their stretch goal to $5K. Would be wonderful to see them get to $10K given all of the posters on here and elsewhere talking up their contributions. For those unaware, the Bearettes feature a majorette drill style of dance that originates out of the HBCUs. The Bearettes were the first majorettes team to be established on the West Coast back in 2015. Majorette teams at non HBCUs have recently been getting attention because of a viral tweet featuring USC's new squad. Those girls got to appear on one of the national talk shows and were profiled in a front page article in the LA Times today.
I say we show our team some support! There's a real need there since my understanding is that the AD's office hasn't offered them financial support historically and it's truly something these students are running on their own. What they do goes beyond spirit and athletics. They're helping create a sense of community for Black students and other groups on campus.

Cheerleading crew is now a dance crew - difference is their wings have been clipped. No throwing cheerleaders in the air. This comes directly from the Chancellor herself. Also they will really dance besides cheer - and not be like those tubs of lard across the Bay (aka dollies) (the Chancellor may have said this more diplomatically). But they are not goin to be like the Stanford cheerleads who actually are thrown up in the air or put in pyramids and other formations that are potentially dangerous. Seems reasonable to me.Big C said:fat_slice said:awesomebuffalo said:

Anyway, I could give a crap about the "stunts". Why can't we have somebody out there leading cheers and/or dancing in front of the band?!? They don't need to be stacking themselves 15 feet in the air.

We are paying him nearly $1 million a year for this. He should have never been hired, but the eight year extension after demonstrated incompetence is just outrageously maddening or depressing, take your pick.
