Dude looked physically dominant. Yes he did have a brain fart for what should have been the tying TD. He relaxed and stood flat footed thinking he had the TD in the bag. But very promising going forward. Could be a weapon for Troy Taylor!

I agree and ALL of those reasons is an example of how poorly coached he is!chunkybear said:

There are a few guys I like for our future.
Believe it or not, I like our DB unit for the long term.
I like Gamble, Young, Hearns, Erby, Woodson and Miles Williams (S).
Same with our LB group.
Honestly we really only have 2 units that bother me: Our DL because of lack of depth
and our OL because of bad coaching.
That's an overstatement and yes it would be adequate but that is why we need more depth because those 2 and Wilkins are injured and you need more rotation to keep guys fresh. We have 12 DL on the roster, including the 3 that are injured. Compare that to most other teams. It's not enough.KoreAmBear said:heartofthebear said:I see what you did there.KoreAmBear said:

Agreed, in talking to some players, they feel the offensive tackles are a weak spot and some guards have been moved to tackle, but they are just not effective there. Very frustrating because J Ott is limited on plays He would be effective at running. Just a horrible game from coaches, and the offense. DL just could not get any consistent push and minimal pressure as well. Despite the team playing very bad, a couple of key drops made the final difference. I do think the team will bounce back and play much better against Washington. That is a winnable game despite this pathetic performance.heartofthebear said:I see what you did there.KoreAmBear said:

Frustrated and angry, yes, fleeting hope of 2 remaining wins? Yes. My combined $800 bets on the over of 5.5 wins? That is gone. Bottom line, program is failing and coaches are paid to coach, prepare, and develop - not seeing it.heartofthebear said:Wow4thGenCal said:Agreed, in talking to some players, they feel the offensive tackles are a weak spot and some guards have been moved to tackle, but they are just not effective there. Far too nonchalant.
Assuming Johnson, McKenzie, Wilkens and Calhoun all return and are healthy, then yes with Carlton it is a very good line and deep, bordering on dominant. Guys playing now, are mostly normal backups and young. Just the reality and teams need to be prepared for the inevitable injury. Its unfortunate that Cal has been hit extra hard there.Rushinbear said:Johnson, yes.KoreAmBear said:heartofthebear said:I see what you did there.KoreAmBear said:

I agree with you and your objective/ rational read. I remain supportive and hopeful (yes its a bit of plain loyalty and stubborn deep passion mixed in) and with the necessary two coaching changes season end, the foundation is there to perform much better. Confident that Ott stays (just a smart, organized and mature young man and He realizes he is and will be the focal point on offense - versus being a piece somewhere else and that preps him better for the NFL. Plummer needs to stay, and has the right mix of skill players to excel, but no idea what He is going to do. And the DL should be vastly improved with Johnson, Mckenzie, Wilkens, and Calhoun hopefully healthy and returning next season. Washington game will be interesting as to the team's fight and execution - pretty much the only realistic chance at season salvation (though Big Game is certainly winnable). I have warned from well before the season that this was a 5 win team.
So why am I angry?
Because I thought it would be an improved 5-7.
But I think Cal wins 4 maybe 5.
And losing to Colorado is not acceptable regardless.
This team is regressing and it is so terrifying that we will be stuck with it for years without any change, except maybe at certain positions.
Here's the one hope I have.
Wilcox replaces McClure and/or Musgrave and somehow we end up with offensive competence next season. In turn Plummer and Ott stay and pretty much the whole roster returns, save a few replaceable players. Then next season, with the new energy and some wins, we bring in a class for the future. That is the blueprint that pulls us out of this more sooner than later. We'll see.

Certainly a possibility, but Johnson has said (in last couple of weeks) that He plans on returning (really likes the HC and his position coach), has to be fully recovered and stay healthy, but the nucleus returning on the DL, is very good.heartofthebear said:FYI4thGenCal said:I agree with you and your objective/ rational read. I posed the question to the mods earlier as to the possibility that Johnson won't return next season, not because of injury but because of graduation. Not all graduates with eligibility remaining return. That is up to the player and his options. Johnson might have the option to go straight to the NFL, even with limited college experience. He's that good.
Anyway, we Cal fans often assume rosier futures and are continually disappointed because we don't think through all of the potential problems along the way.
Thanks for posting that. I'm glad to hear it. I know that Johnson cares and is a very mature, committed player. If his commitment includes Cal that is a rare win for us.4thGenCal said:Certainly a possibility, but Johnson has said (in last couple of weeks) that He plans on returning (really likes the HC and his position coach), has to be fully recovered and stay healthy, but the nucleus returning on the DL, is very good.heartofthebear said:FYI4thGenCal said:I agree with you and your objective/ rational read. I'm a little on the fence about Plummer. It seems like his accuracy has been inconsistent (although those balls to Starling and Latu were right in there). If he stays for another year, will Millner go into the portal and if he does, is Mendoza the answer as a backup? I know, this is way down the list of issues to be concerned with, but it's not like we should be wondering which bowl game we'll be invited to . . .4thGenCal said:I agree with you and your objective/ rational read.
