I wonder if that includes all those 2 yard passes on 3rd and long?

Unless our OL starts to block, none of the near-scrimmage/flat stuff is gonna work, at this point in the season it should be clear to the staff what our weaknesses are and not due to lack of execution.

We rushed for 33 yards.

Plummer has to sit. He's not helped by O line and receivers dropping passes but he makes enough terrible decisions himself. A 24 yard grounding foul from the 5 to the 29 lol

Any decent OL could push a bit upfront and get 50-100 yards rushing by just running 15-20 dives, we have totally failed in making the line good enough to even do that.

Glad the announcers were pointing out how horrific the OL is and how the transfer portal is the only way to salvage next year.

We are going to lose more talent to the portal than we will gain.

We stink. We just don't have the players and Wilcox doesn't know how to get them

OSUs players are not significantly better than Cal's. They have been behind us in recruiting rankings. We have 4 star players.

The HUGE difference is in coaching and player development.

Those STAR ratings dont meet the EYE TEST.
The Beavs clearly have a TON MORE TEAM SPEED.
You cant coach that.

Transfers don't count in recruiting rankings and more than half their starters are transfers.

247 now ranks transfer classes

They do separately, yes. OSU had a top 20 class in 2020. Their starting QB is also a transfer, as are 6 of their other offensive starters. I didn't say we don't have a couple transfers. We do. Posters here just ignore how good a team can get if they play the game and get transfers. We have one foot in.
Yes.

It's not just recruiting transfers, it's finding and recruiting really good transfers.

Example: Cal has a transfer QB, but there are 4 teams in the Pac-12 that landed better transfer QBs.

Did Wilcox really say that? Not that I think whatever a coach says to the press amounts to jack squat, but that is Dykes-level throwing the players under the bus. (Again, I am not a big he-threw-his-players-under-the-bus complainer. Just saying... )

He did say "It is on all of us. The coaches call the plays and it is up to the players to execute. I can name 15 plays in the first half alone that if the play is made it changes the complexion of the game going into the half."

It is so strange to see the wheels falling off yet at the same time being stuck with the dude for at least 5 more seasons.

This was all an obvious possibility given our 5-7 record last year and all the improvements by the others in the conference. The extension last December was completely unnecessary and irresponsible. It easily could have been put off until after this season to see if it was warranted. The extension for "COVID" also made no sense for Cal.

It's craziness. Rewind to 11 months ago: We have a coach who has never had a winning record in conference play and has just wrapped up two losing seasons. What do we do? We extend him out to six years with (apparently) no buyout clause. As KoreAm alluded to, what a feeling of hopelessness.

I suppose our best option at this point is to get him the best OL coach and OC that we can possibly afford.

Put @killa22 on the search committee. The search committee that found Fox and Musgrave should never be allowed to step foot in the Cal football offices.

With a good oline coach and OC, we should be able to recruit some very good talent as they'll know they're likely to play immediately.

Traveling so I haven't watched the game yet. Did the team quit on Wilcox or did poor O play exhaust the D again. I read that another PK made our sole FG. Good thing?

Yes. Longhetto has the yips. Luckhurst's kick was like an NFl kicker would take, up very quickly and right down the middle. Just one kick, but it was the best thing all night. Asked after the game Wilcox said he did not know who his kicker would be. Inspiring.

Transfer portal makes Cal a minor league team. It doesn't solve out problems, it lets us develop players so the good teams don't have to take the risk.

Well, we've successfully locked up another losing season. How many years left in Wilcox's contract?
