Wilcox pissed, "Unacceptable!" mostly blaming players "I could name 15 plays off the top of my head in the first half that totally change the complexion of the game going into the half."
I wonder if that includes all those 2 yard passes on 3rd and long?
"It is up to the players to execute the plays that are called. Hanging your head, kicking your locker means nothing." JW
Did Wilcox really say that? Not that I think whatever a coach says to the press amounts to jack squat, but that is Dykes-level throwing the players under the bus. (Again, I am not a big he-threw-his-players-under-the-bus complainer. Just saying...
He did say "It is on all of us. The coaches call the plays and it is up to the players to execute. I can name 15 plays in the first half alone that if the play is made it changes the complexion of the game going into the half."
It is so strange to see the wheels falling off yet at the same time being stuck with the dude for at least 5 more seasons.
This was all an obvious possibility given our 5-7 record last year and all the improvements by the others in the conference. The extension last December was completely unnecessary and irresponsible. It easily could have been put off until after this season to see if it was warranted. The extension for "COVID" also made no sense for Cal.
It's craziness. Rewind to 11 months ago: We have a coach who has never had a winning record in conference play and has just wrapped up two losing seasons. What do we do? We extend him out to six years with (apparently) no buyout clause. As KoreAm alluded to, what a feeling of hopelessness.
I suppose our best option at this point is to get him the best OL coach and OC that we can possibly afford.
