...if Cal was in the MWC.

Utah State is playing Memphis in the off-the-wall First Responder Bowl.

I mean, Cal slipped by UNLV, and UNLV handedly beat Utah State.

Less than 10 minutes left in the game, Memphis is thumping Utah State. So, the only question remaining is,
would Memphis be murdering Cal right about now or would Cal be wowing the TV viewers by being in the process of making a heroic comeback win!

You have to admit that such a situation is better than watching the transfer-portal.

No thank you. I want nothing to do with the MWC. That's a fate worse than mediocrity.

The PAC is the better brand, better history. Even if we get left behind, better to be king of the PAC-8 or invite in the best MWC teams, or merge with the ACC or B12, anything other than join the MWC.

Only problem with that is if we get left behind, then that means Oregon and UW went to the Big 10. Which likely also means AZ, ASU, CU and Utah will go to the Big 12. Speculation but its a possibility. Means we would likely have to join the MWC or we bring UNLV, SDSU, Fresno, Air Force, Boise and one more to get to 10.

This is all worse case scenarios, but I don't see why Utah, Colorado, ASU and Arizona necessarily leave. And even if they did leave for the B-12, most likely so could Cal and and Stanford which would be the "merge with B-12 or ACC" scenario.

As long as conference champions have a better route to the CFP, there wil be more value to MWC teams joining the PAC, than the other way around.

Of course. That was a worse case scenario. Then again, we're Cal. We anticipate and expect the worst case scenario.

I would say it's less that the worst case scenario is anticipated so much as it actually occurring to us, sometimes even worse than the most negative bear could have imagined (like USC and UCLA announcing their move in July)

The worst case scenario is Cal going to the MWC with even lower rated recruiting classes (after understandably losing our best players who have NFL potential) and being at best a .500 team.

More importantly, it means NONE of the players currently on the roster would be at Cal because none of them aspired to play Mt West level football. Which means the entire premise of this thread is wrong, because our Mt. West team wouldn't qualify for anything.

That's what I keep saying. It would lead to the end of football (other than intramurals) at Cal.

Given everything that has happened in the last few years, it's less of a worst case as in low probability outcome and more of a 50/50 coinflip that can be triggered depending on how the media rights deal pans out
