Maybe a 1-year stop? Gotta say, I'm a little baffled by this.....

I suspect he's not the "Spav-run-offense QB" prototype.........

At Cal Poly, Huard will compete for the starting job with former Cal QB Spencer Brasch, who won the starting job during the 2022 season and played well.

Apparently Cal Poly's new OC was Huard's HS coach.

As postulated by many, NIL is going to help smaller and middle schools up their game as backups on major programs seek playing time. Once your position is taken by a guy getting a paycheck, you have no hope of seeing the field unless there's an injury. Depth on major programs is about to disappear. What was once thought of as a menace is about to improve the quality of play across the entire ncaa spectrum. The only thing that sucks is that it's now even harder to win a championship, but even a smaller school might catch lightning in a bottle with a few second or third string players coming together in a single season.

Smaller schools aren't going to attract the same level of second-stringers as the bigger ones, so I don't really see that happening. Plus they can't afford to load up on them like the bigger players can.

The problem I see with NIL and a program like Cal (small power in a big pond), is your view regarding depth. However, the traditional powers will continue to accumulate the better benches, just not at the same level they did in the past.

What I see is a couple of the perennial powers not having a good year due to depth issues and a couple from the next level below taking their place from season to season.

Your playing time point seems more associated with the portal than NIL. In any case, I agree that people moving in search of field time will even things out a bit, which is maybe the silver lining I see in the whole new paradigm.

Bruce Feldman speculated on his podcast that Huard will go to Cal Poly, where his former HS coach is the OC, put up monster numbers and then transfer back to the Power 5 after a year.

I cannot imagine he wouldn't have been able to transfer to P5 now given his recruiting rank, but maybe those massive numbers will parlay into an even better landing spot. Maybe......

Maybe. Or maybe he just sucks.

To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

This seems to be the way for HS QBs anymore. The smart ones should go to G5 and FCS schools to throw up gaudy numbers and get experience and then portal themselves to the next level. It's insanity to go to a big program and try to fight your way into a spot (with a higher likelihood of getting injured by bigger DL/LB)... And throwing NIL at guys like Rashada seems like a foolhardy bet for collectives. New world.

He enrolled at UW in 2020 and hasn't played at all. That's a long time. Power 5 teams that need a QB have a lot options among guys who have played. He can go to Cal Poly and get on the field immediately. If he puts up big numbers, he'll get a lot of offers. Might even go back to Seattle. Seems like he's betting on himself.

Exactly! You will will probably see more QB's who want to start as freshmen go to non top flight programs where they can put up good numbers, then transfer to top programs with massive NIL deals. I think thats a win win. Smaller schools get a good QB for a year and some interest in football. Bigger schools can then hand pick QBs and throw money at them.

A la Kai to N.Arizona. Hard to watch Kai's high school tapes and then figure out what else Spivital was/is looking for.

It beats going the JC route. Get a scholly, then transfer. Welcome to the new normal. FCS schools like Portland State are already reaping the benefits. They picked up a big class with Delon Thompson (So Cal's leading RB)

It makes sense for HS recruits who aren't getting the offers they want, but Huard will have to sit out or graduate from Cal Poly if he wants to transfer again. FCS is still D1 for football, and Cal Poly obviously is a 4 year school.

I am pretty sure Spavital would rather have both Sam Jackson AND Kai, just like Sonny would rather have both Chandler Morris AND Sam Jackson. But Sam felt Morris had the nod, so he goes to Cal, where Kai felt Sam had the edge so he goes to Northern Arizona. Dominos.

Maybe I am wrong but I understood that Kai made his decision to enter portal BEFORE he knew that Plummer was also entering the Portal and BEFORE he knew that Jackson was coming to Cal.
That makes it all the more puzzling that Kai entered the Portal so soon and before his real competition became clear
