Seattle QB EJ Caminong Commits to Cal

The Bears got good news this morning with the commitment of 6-2/200 Garfield (Seattle, WA) High School QB EJ Caminong‍ days after his official visit to Cal. He announced his commitment via twitter, saying: “I want to thank God, all of my family and friends, my teammates, coaches, other mentors, and everyone else who’s played a part at this point in my life. I am forever grateful and your impact on my life has helped me to this point. Now I’m announcing that I am now committed to the University of California Berkeley! #GOBEARS

The high 3 star QB has been the highest QB on the Bears board for a while and this last weekend, he was one of nine recruits on campus. The 3 star QB was an early UW commit but decommitted two weeks ago before his Cal visit, also canceling his BYU visit last weekend. 

“My visit to Cal was great,” Caminong said. “I had a very good time with the entire coaching staff and all the of the coaches are top-notch people. The program is very prestigious, both on and off the field and it’s something that’s very enticing.

“The coaches and the school, as well as network were important for my decision. My relationship with Spav is super tight and my family is close with Spav as well. I love his offense and mindset about playing the QB position.”

Caminong also cited his time spent with his fellow visiting recruits and time around the Cal players playing a role in his decision for Cal.

“I think us being around each other and also when we went out with their players, the way they hang out and interact allowed us to do the same and we all enjoyed hanging out with each other,” Caminong said. “Everyone on the visit were good people.

“My host was Jordan King and I spent a lot of time with the players. They helped me get a better outlook on the team and what that bond looks like. I really enjoyed it.”

Caminong becomes the ninth commit for the Bears in their 2024 class. Stay tuned on my from last weekend’s official visitors.
