White uniforms are for tennis, and they went out of style with wooden racquets, long ago.

Maybe OK for cricket, but not football.
the football is in a dumpster and has been for years .. and will continue as long as JW is in charge

and people worry about the color of the uniforms LOL

quite frankly they could wear pink (even tho a shade of red) if they won ten or more games a year until I finally meet the great scorekeeper
Now that the sunshine pumpers finally join the rest of us in being cynical about the direction of the program, the only things we have left to argue over is the color of the unis, the songs that the band plays, and whether it's ethical to leave peanut shells in the stands.

"the rest of us... ?

DB, you are in a category-of-one with regards to your cynicism. Always the most negative take. Every single time. You make Econ 141 look like a sunshine-pumper in comparison...

... which is fine and somewhat warranted. Whatever. But don't pretend like there's a group of you, because you are pretty much alone at the far end of the spectrum. Lots of people not too far away, granted, and they (we?) have reason to be discouraged, but most of us are desperately searching for a little enjoyment, even in an era like this one.

You know that every team is required to have a white jersey, right?
Do you mean we have to like something if it is required? Like paying income tax, for example?

No, but this topic proposed to "dump" the white uniforms, something that can't be done.
Maybe for us old alums who are mostly law-biding citizens, that works. Young kids, many of them Cal students, are no strangers to bucking authority, and sometimes winning. I'm sure you've heard of "woke" and all the upheaval it caused.

I think I figured out why I don't like white uniforms. It is one of two colors which make up our arch rival Stanford's uniforms, and haven't they been were wearing all white uniforms or half-white uniforms since the beginning of Stanford football? That would be long before any requirement to have white as a uniform color. So I have been watching their white or half-white football unies for my whole lifetime, and when they beat our butts (which has been too often) that is enough reason for me to dislike their colors, white or otherwise. I rest my case.

If you enjoy soul crushing disappointment week after week, year after year, that's your choice. There are plenty of people in the world that stay in abusive relationships, hoping their partner won't continue to cheat only to be let down time and again.

I'd just say that it's liberating and even enjoyable to let go, accept this inept administration and coaching staff for the frauds they are, and mercilessly berate them for their failings.

It is NOT necessary, in every case, for a visiting team to wear white jerseys.

$C and UC(la) have been wearing their home jerseys for the cross city rivalry for years. Oregon and Oregon State have recently gone back to both wearing home jerseys for the Civil War game. Utah and BYU both wear home jerseys for their rivalry. And there are several other examples.

If the home team is OK with it, the visitor can wear the home jersey.

For decades that's how it was at Big Game, and that's how it should be again. Cal in Blue jerseys and stanford in red. That's part of the color of college football and Cal should do that this year at Big Game.

Paly is Bear territory, just like the entire state is Bear territory. Wear Blue on the farm!

For those games they get special permission from the home team. All college football teams still need to have SOME kind of white jersey to wear for situations where they don't have that permission.

Congrats today on your One Year anniversary here! With 492 posts in the past year, I'm wondering what it is that you've "let go"? Maybe just any shred of hope for a brighter future?

Don't get me wrong; I'm glad you're here. It's just that, for me, I survive on hope, even if it's irrational. Also false bravado. Also sarcasm.

Thanks, time really flies! I've let go in the sense that I came into the season expecting a 3-9 or 4-8 record so I don't get disappointed when get crushed in three different ways against three different ranked teams.

The tragedy has gone on for so long that it's become a comedy. I get the same enjoyment watching Wilcox blunder through yet another "we need to do better" post-game interview as I did when Trump was blabbering nonsense at his weekly COVID task force press conferences three years ago.

The only part of this uni discussion that matters to me: white pants should NEVER be worn w/o the white jersey. Both blue and gold over white are hideous and have been for the 15 years we've worn it.

Sycasey, if you look at the third paragraph in what I wrote (right above your response)I noticed you'll see that is exactly what I said. You didn't quote my entire post.

BTW, despite the fact this is a football forum, has anyone seen what Cal Basketball or Cal Rugby will be wearing this year? Can't recall hearing or seeing anything. Basketball is getting close and rugby's first game is just a few months away. I would think that's been settled by now?

I noticed a few times Cal softball wore white helmets last year too, which was disappointing. It's just not a good look. But overall I have thought the softball kit has been pretty good (outside of that).

A great Cal uniform from the Cal - Michigan game in 1967. The gold they used on the block C really gets highlighted in the sun. I was hoping (beyond hope) that somehow, they would where these colors and the block C when they played Notre Dame last year, to sort of celebrate the first meeting since 1967. No such luck.

Those unis are my second favorite. They were simple, classic, and classy.

Interesting note on that field. Cal had a nice, natural Bermuda Grass surface. Later on (not sure what the date was, but it was close) Cal Rugby played New South Wales of Australia on that field. The NSW fullback (Charlie was his first name as I recall) said that the field was so good that the players actually enjoyed being tackled on it. Alas..........

Card stunts worked in those days for two reasons. 1) Students knew how to do them and 2) Student section wore white shirts so the color of the cards wasn't mired among a bunch of other colors. If the student section still did that, card stunts would look at least a little better. But now they don't even know how to do them......or don't care.

Cal Band's halftime performance was in conjunction with the card stunts.

Cal players showed fight throughout the game. Good example of the Willsey physicality that led to Cal being called the "Bear Minimum" defense.

Players played with respect to the game. No showboating, flamboyance, or "me me me" crap.

For the record, Cal won this game. I think it was their first ever victory over a Michigan team, but I might be wrong. I remember it was a big deal at the time because Cal hadn't beaten a Michigan team for some time.

Thanks to Pasadenaorbust and TomBear for the blasts from the past. I remember when I was a student we did wear white in order to be allowed to sit in the rooting section and do the card stunts. Did we have to wear white dress shirts or was any white shirt OK, including white t-shirts? Were the girls allowed in the rooting section back then, and if so, did they wear white?

I'm probably confusing this with my last couple of years in high school, when our school had a deal to provide ushers for one section on the Cal side, and in return, we got to see all the home games for free. We ushers all rode the Key System electric train across the Bay Bridge to the Cal games. In order to be ushers, we had to wear white dress shirts. I had one white shirt, and I had to wash and iron it every week during football season. But it all was worth it, to get to see Cal play for free.

For the first couple of years I was at Cal, the rooting section at the basketball games also did card stunts. During Cal-Stanford basketball games at least, both teams' fans had rooting sections which were on the East and West sides of Harmon Gym, and did dueling card stunts back and forth. In white shirts.
