If this keeps up a Packer will be chomping on a drumstick on the 50 yard line during a post game interview.

Jared looks awful today, and this Lions team is completely fraudulent. Loss is good for the Niners, though.

It's all how they play their last few games. The Niners could easily crater and the Bay Area sports media turn vicious on them yet again. I'm not a Purdy groupie yet.

Depends on what you mean by fraudulent. I don't think they'd be frauds as a playoff team. Top 2 seed, though . . . yeah, probably.

The whole team better wake up not just Goff.

The Lions OL really sucked today. Goff must have thought he was back at Cal.

Somewhat fraudulent, but not <completely> fraudulent.

They were tied with the Eagles for best record in the NFL. They now have the second best record. They clearly are not one of the two best teams (neither are the Eagles). The Lions grade out statistically as the 9th best team in the NFL which seems about right. It is a far cry from #1 but it is a huge improvement from where they were.

Niners and Ravens are the two best teams according to the algorithm.

This throw from Purdy is elite, though. It's a pick if isn't perfectly thrown.

Edit: and this is after throwing a pick six previously. He had every reason to be gun shy for the rest of the game.

My guess is I'm wrong about Purdy. I have a bias against smaller QB's like Carr, Jimmy G and Purdy ….but then you have guys like Mahomes…..
If Purdy continues to play well for the rest of the season and is durable, save me a seat on the bandwagon.

Also this is clearly drawn up to be a check down to the TE coming open on the short throw over the middle. He would pick up 10 yards easily. Purdy went for the throat.

Yep. When Shanahan says Purdy proved him wrong, you know you have something. Not sure I've ever heard him say anything like this.

The quality of QBs in the NFL, with Brady having retired and Rodgers being out, is currently the lowest I've seen since I started following the game in the 1980s.

Look for Nix, Penix and Williams and other QBs from the upcoming draft to start on NFL teams next season.

Allen, Mahomes and Burrow are having mediocre statistical years but it wouid be foolish to assume they won't be there at the end.

C.J. Stroud is the NFL story of the year

Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees. How many of the current players are at their level?

Both Brady and Rodgers agree about the level of play having declined. Brady mentions lack of emphasis on fundamentals, Rodgers on bad habits and organizational sloppiness:

Agreed. Fundamentals? Bad habits? Really? Rodgers especially in his later years seemed to make every throw off his back foot, turning into Brett Farve who who was even less disciplined.

However, 2020 was statistically the best passing season in NFL history. 2023 so far ranks "only" #8 all time. So there is an argument that there has been a drop off from when Rodgers and Brady were slinging it.

And every generation of SNL viewers think the former generations of cast members were better or the golden generation. I watch some of the old Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, and Chevy Chase skits and wonder how that was even funny. They were all masters in movies, by the way, as each were in comedy classics. So no offense to them, I am a fan of their movies.

The big difference is that SNL had to fill 90 minutes of material every week and also had an expectation of being topical about politics, etc. It's always been hit and miss with stuff that won't age well. We just remember the hits over time.

Same with old athletes. They remember the toughest competition they faced, but not the worst.

And I seriously doubt the chappelle show room was full of cutthroat competition/politics to get your sketch on the show, very different environment, and also not having to deal with the guest of the week as well.

Most people consume old episodes of SNL via clips or edited down to 60 minutes, with the musical guests. So all the bad stuff is gone.

Same with old players. Nobody is watching the entire games. They are watching edited clips and

Alex Smith's argument of the Pats' record being somewhat inflated by being in a weak NFL is complete BS, Brady made the Pats into a formidable dynasty that won 7 Superbowls. They would have won those regardless of their division.

There is probably an element of jealousy here, Smith is a mediocre QB criticizing the GOAT, he is also the greatest mistake the 49ers franchise ever made in their entire history of NFL drafts. The 9ers would would have won several championships with Rodgers.

I don't know about this season's cast, but the last 5-10 years has had its share of brilliance:

Bill Hader (did he quit 10 years ago?), Beck Beckett, Leslie Jones, Kyle Mooney, Kate McKinnon, Chris Redd, Keenan Thompson, even Pete Davidson, had super funny moments. How you can find this not funny:

I'd put Murray and Murphy in the category of generational talents - but as much for their acting as their comedy. I don't think Farley or McDonald were generational talents, even if they were definitely incredible performers. Norm was always one of my favorites
