Somewhat fraudulent, but not <completely> fraudulent.
They were tied with the Eagles for best record in the NFL. They now have the second best record. They clearly are not one of the two best teams (neither are the Eagles). The Lions grade out statistically as the 9th best team in the NFL which seems about right. It is a far cry from #1 but it is a huge improvement from where they were.
Niners and Ravens are the two best teams according to the algorithm.

The big difference is that SNL had to fill 90 minutes of material every week and also had an expectation of being topical about politics, etc. It's always been hit and miss with stuff that won't age well. We just remember the hits over time.
Same with old athletes. They remember the toughest competition they faced, but not the worst.
