I could have a childhood dream come true next year. It seems to have an ACC tie-in, and if Cal performs well...we could end up in the Pop Tarts Bowl in 2024. Wow. who would have thought. Heck with the Rose Bowl.

I can easily imagine $c turning down a bowl bid.
Yes. Without CW they have nothing and don't need another humiliating loss. I also don't know if the bRuins would accept a bid. How is E Garbers recovering? I also suspect some unrest among fans not knowing where Chip might end up?? Go Bears - to the LA Bowl for us living here.

From a purely selfish standpoint, I'm rooting for the Vegas Bowl or the Holiday Bowl (though I know the odds of either happening are slim to none). It's my mom's birthday on the 16th so I won't be able to go to the game if it's the LA Bowl (and there's no way I'm going to Shreveport).
sounds like you hate Cal. And your Mom will have other birthdays. We'll never have this bowl game again.

After reading the previous 75 posts to this thread I have come to this conclusion. Cal will be playing in a bowl in December.

Not a tv fan...as I try to go to as many of the away games as I can. However...I stuck to a firm commitment I made many years ago that I would not see Cal in the Rose Bowl unless it was the actual Rose Bowl game. But now, I'm starting to think I should have re-thunk that commitment, because being in the ACC may reduce the odds even more.

I think Pop Tarts are recommended daily for seven-year olds, though.

Alternatively, maybe mom wants to spend a birthday weekend in LA or on Bourbon street (admittedly the latter is quite a detour from the actual bowl game).

And they even say the winning team can eat the mascot on the field: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/pop-tarts-bowl-will-feature-the-first-edible-mascot-in-sports-history/

Shreveport to Bourbon St is just 60 miles less than or the same distance as the SF to LA drive depending on the route taken.

Lol! My mom knows I love Cal, but she'd never forgive me for missing her birthday. She never understood football, let alone why I irrationally love Cal football. There's no way I could talk her into sitting through a game at SoFi.

Emerald Nuts to Cheez-It to Foster Farms, it feels like the Pop-Tarts Bowl (formerly the new Cheez-It Bowl) is our destiny.

Darn it, I just looked it up and the Foster Farms Bowl was renamed Redbox Bowl by the time we played in it. Close enough I guess.

There really isn't a great way to get to Shreveport unless you live on the East Coast.

Delta can get you there through Atlanta
American can get you there through Charlotte

Otherwise, your best option is most likely flying to Dallas and renting a car for a ~ 3 hour car ride (and another ~3 hours coming back).

Fernando brought up an uplifting possibility that I hadn't considered given all the other excitement - Ifanse might be healed up and able to play in the bowl. Would love for him to go out on the high note he deserves.

Alternatively, your marching band kid could be hopping in the car for a scenic trip down beautiful I-5, car pointed south-southeast towards Sofi Stadium.

If that's the case, check the snow forecast for Tejon Pass!

If the Tejon Pass is snowed in, take the 101 south to Ventura, then either the 126 East, or a little further down the 101 take the 23 North to the 118 east and then 5 south from there. The 126 runs directly into the 5, as does the 118.

strykur, it's understandable ur still kinda confused but the december 16th bowl games conflict with berkeley final examinations the week prior plus the bears wouldn't be able to utilize all 15 ncca permitted bowl game practices

the tony the tiger sun bowl (which got an acc affiliation) would be ideal from a timing perspective, got it?

The obstacle to putting Cal in the Sun Bowl is that, given Cal's place in the Pac-12 standings, it requires a Pac-12 team with a better record to agree to play in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 16th instead of playing in a better bowl game on a later date. It might happen, but on the surface it doesn't seem probable.

Let's be honest here and call a spade a spade. There is absolutely nothing unique about Cal's academic calendar vs. the academic calendar of other semester-based schools.

-Cal's final exams end on Fri, Dec 15
-University of Arizona's final exams end on Thurs, Dec 14
-USC's final exams end on Wed, Dec 13
-Notre Dame's final exams end on Fri, Dec 15

The problem with a 6-6 season is that you're almost destined to be slotted into an earlier, less prestigious bowl game. But this is not a problem unique to Cal, and if our Athletic Department leadership cannot find a way to make an earlier bowl game work, that's a Cal problem not a bowl problem. There are plenty of other 6-6 and 7-5 type of teams that will still be able in compete in a bowl game on Dec 16.

Right Cal has very little leverage as a 6-6 team that isn't a national brand like Clemson/Michigan/ND that can push around the bowls a bit to get locations/times that work for them.

Have things changed or do finals have a dead week before and then go over about 8 days....I really can remember only one time having a final on the last day in my 3 years there. I went home to Los Gatos and came back just for the final, final....It is workable.

yes dead week is next week. For whatever reason, there are several big lower div and pre-req classes with dec 15 finals for whatever reason. plus winter graduation is on the 16th, so there wont be any band available for that. But I'll take the bowl.

Seems kind of wrong that Cal never played in the Sun Bowl, after all those years of it being a Pac affiliate.

If this happens, on the downside, it's just a regular old ACC conference matchup. On the upside it's our new fight-song stealing rival!

Let's be honest here, if we're talking about supporting the "student-athletes" they wanna play in a bowl game for the first time in their Cal tenure for most of them. If you told them it would mess with their finals schedules a bit and take some extra work on their part and then put it to a team vote I guarantee over 90% vote in favor of going to a bowl game
