Get it the first time and can go for the win with a point after if another TD is scored. Fail the first time and you get a second chance to tie it assuming a second td is scored.

If you feel you have a 50/50 chance of making it it's not that bad a choice....especially if you are trying to avoid ot on the road.

I think that it's because it was 3rd and long and if they ran it, they probably wouldn't make it and the clock would run down to the two minute warning anyway.

The guy's been to the Super Bowl. If you have a monkey on your back after that, you're just a scapegoat for a narcissistic teflon-coated head coach who needed a super overpowered team to barely win one Super Bowl.

Lions OL is the difference so far
In a theoretical Niners-Lions matchup, I like the Niners' chances, but I don't like the prospect of the horribly overrated Niner DL going up against that Lions' OL.
Against the 49ers, Campbell ought to call more runs in short yardage situations than he did today. He showed a tendency to get cute with difficult pass plays on 2nd or 3rd and short instead of giving the ball to one of the Lions' two really good RBs.

I think the chances of making the two are better than 50% so math favors

After that gleeful summary by Collinsworth about where this game is headed for the Bucs, I hope Mayfield sh@its the bed with a pic to open the 2nd half.
How about his backhanded compliment that "Goff makes easy things look easier."

Curious, what makes the compliment backhanded?

Implying Goff has it easy on this team.

Niners open a 6.5 point favorite. Too low, I'll take them. The Detroit dream will wind up beached in Alviso

When did Collinsworth say, or even imply, Goff has it easy? Sounds like some people are grasping at straw in their efforts to find something to be offended by.

You must have missed Collinsworth's comment about Goff "making easy things look easier", a weird, contorted backhanded compliment.

I think Goff will be lucky that bad weather in Alviso was this weekend and not next weekend.

Game will be more even if Deebo unavailable. But would Lions to stuff mccaffery

You have to know Collingsworth's history in denigrating Goff as a "system quarterback" (at Cal and on the Rams) who "is making nothing but easy throws."

A compliment would be "Goff makes the difficult look easy." Saying "Goff makes the easy look easier" has the appearance of a compliment but it is doubling down on his position that Goff only makes easy throws. Hence, it is a "back-handed compliment."

Not a Collinsworth fan. Not a Mike Tirico fan. His kid goes to Stanford or did (like my daughter) and wants to not mention Cal as much as he can (My daughter wore Cal clothes to root for her brother)..

While I selfishly wished for a Green Bay/Detroit rematch, this Niner game will be incredible. Lions can stuff the run, but their secondary looks like Cal at times, and that's not a good thing. Kind of like a sieve. Goff vs. Purdy will be an electric matchup. Purdy throws two picks. Lions win by 7.

Football is not poker. You can't make decisions purely on expected value because football has a clock that runs out. Going for 2 was a horrible decision with limited upside and huge downside.

That's right, the numbers don't factor in momentum. The Bucs had some momentum scoring their last TD, missing the 2pt conversion dampened it.

End game. On third and 12 from the TB 30 Goff takes a knee, losing two yards, making it fourth and 14. 36 seconds remained in the fourth quarter. There was 40 seconds on the play clock. So everyone started shaking hands and stuff. It's over. No need to snap the ball again. Except TB had one timeout remaining. Why didn't they take it? Sure, Detroit could have kicked a field goal to ice it. But what if they missed? Or Detroit could have tried to get a first down. Or just run around using up time. But TB would have had a teeny tiny chance to try for a miracle play. You know, maybe five laterals or something. Instead they chose to just say congrats and good luck Lions. I don't think you ever give up when you have any chance at all. Thoughts?
