Two from ACC -- FSU and Clemson.

Note -- Utah ranked #3 so since they are in the top 4, they get a bye. Oregon also get in .

They had no problem winning the ACC championship without one, they would just need to not drop too many games beforehand.

I think it is just total disrespect to the Big 12 which is really just the Mountain West at this point.

My prediction: more than half the teams will be SEC and B1G. There will be one or two from G5 conferences to avoid lawsuits.

By rule the 6 highest ranked conference champions are part of the 12. So SEC, B1G, ACC, and B12 plus 2 of Pac2 or G5. At least one G5 team is in by rule, maybe 2 depending on how good OSU and WSU are (this board is counting OSU as a win…). I don't think highest ranked "independent" (Notre Dame) counts (?) as a "conference champ." Lawsuits won't be needed (except maybe over the Pac-2 share of the money).

So SEC and B1G have two in as conference champs. Of the 6 at large teams, I could easily imagine them getting 2 more each (so 6 of 12 in total) with the ACC and B-12 each getting 1 at large. Notre Dame is a wild card, but could bump the second ACC team. I think the B-12 will get 2. My guess is 5-6 of the teams will be from the SEC and B1G, at least under the rules in 2024.

However, it is tough to wrap my head around Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC and USC, UCLA, UW and Oregon in the B1G. Could either the SEC or B1G get 4 in so the two get 7 total? (your "more than half"). Yeah, I wouldn't bet against it. That is how it looks based on 2023 results. It depends on how much teams beat each other up in the new B1G and SEC and how voters treat that. I am assuming only 10+ win teams are even considered for at large berths.

There are only now 4 P5 and they take the 5 highest ranked conference champs. So there will have to be one G5 team.

Show me where the G5 was promised to get any of their teams in the twelve team playoffs. I don't think that promise was ever made in any form.

If half the twelve teams will be from the SEC and half will be from the B1G, then there is no room left for any G5 team to get in.

Again, the 6 highest rated conference champions get auto bids. That is 4 conferences other than the SEC and B1G.

Watching programs on the ACC channel to date, I do get the distinct impression they see both 'furd and us as bottom dwelling wankers. The guy who interviewed Wilcox came out with Wake Forest as being the surprise team next year. Now that is fine, but Wake was way worse than us last year and we have hit the Transfer Portal real hard with no recognized potential. Just sayin', little respect for improvement of the newbies and a probable assumption that the ACC is/was stronger than the old Pac12. Not really sure what the thinking. They do give some SMU love, but not much.

Utah looks like an undefeated or 1 loss team max with that schedule.
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

I didn't write anything to indicate a promise to the G5 conferences. My expectation is that they (G5 conferences) will start suing if they are routinely excluded from being in the playoffs. So the playoff committee will include a couple teams to avoid lawsuits while keeping the bulk of teams from "P5". In actuality the P2 will be favored over everyone else.

Again, the top 6 ranked conference champions have autobids. Just do the math. At least one G5 conference champ will be included in the 12.

Moreover, money rules, it will be in everyone's interest to keep all the G5 teams and their fans "in the hunt" for that Cinderella spot during the regular season.

But the 6 at large spots? Yeah, it will often be Notre Dame and a bunch of SEC and B1G teams getting in over other seemingly deserving teams including from the ACC.

With all the realignment, the B1G and SEC are going to look very different. However.going off the Top Sagarin rated teams from 2023 in each 2024 conference, here are what might have been the 12:

1. Oregon B1G
2. Georgia SEC
3. Florida State ACC
4. Kansas State B12
5. Oregon State PAC-2
6. Liberty Conf. USA
7. Michigan B1G
8. Ohio State B1G
9. Penn State B1G
10. Notre Dame Ind
11. Texas SEC
12. Alabama SEC

That would be 4 B1G and 3 SEC or 7 total from the New Power 2. According to Sagarin, Florida State would not have made it as an SEC or B1G team. Also, Sagarin has Oregon as the best team in the country in 2023. UW, as the 12th. Of course, rankings will not agree with Sagarin based on scheduling and voter bias.
