The morally deficient baby bears hit a new low once again by hiring former NFL OC Eric Bienemy. Setting aside that his only successful offenses had Andy Reid as the mastermind and play caller he has a long record of massive red flags in his legal and personal life. On top of that he's persona non grata at his Alma Mater in Boulder even though he was a a part of their most successful teams in history. When they even considered bringing him in for an interview there was donor revolt because of his role in their massive recruiting and legal scandal.

I know, I know, they're not our problem or competition anymore but it's almost sad to see a public school who we once had a brotherly rivalry with sell their soul so effusively and consistently now. Whatever, I hope the worst for them anyway and I don't think he'll be the Xs & Os savant they're hoping for and by all accounts his personality and coaching style will increasingly grate on the people around him and be just another black eye for them.

Just a small taste of the moral and legal failings of their new OC:

  • Multiple DUIs
  • Multiple hit & runs
  • Multiple assaults (including a firefighter and a female parking attendant)
  • Hiring hookers and providing drugs and alcohol for HS recruits in Boulder and where multiple young girls allege they were sexually assaulted
  • Multiple allegations of sexual assault by him personally

And the laundry list goes on . . . those are just some of his "highlights"

I wish nothing but the worst for UCLA but were't all these transgressions over 20 years ago - perhaps he has changed. At the very least, Andy Reid thought he was good enough to bring on.

Regardless, I hope that he actually hasn't changed and he erodes whatever good culture Chip built there.

Not to mention Ron Rivera.

I wouldn't hire him but I hope he has changed.

Fair enough, I don't think 20 year old legal issues should stop someone from having a career but I would also expand on that:

If your only CFB coaching experience ended with a scandal regarding prostitutes, drugs, alcohol, and sexual assault with HS kids then that should be permanently disqualifying from a position of authority working with kids ever again. Especially since he wasn't just a key player but their recruiting director at the time.

I had similar concerns when the prospect of hiring Kidd at Cal was broached and he has significantly less baggage than Bienemy

Andy Reid has a history of overlooking major legal and personal failings in people around him in very sketchy ways including Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt, and his own son, just to name a few.

Beyond all that he's been reported as being an abrasive hardass and the reason he didn't get an NFL HC job or another OC position was the way he treats his players and co-workers. He apparently wasn't well liked in any regard and when teams reached out to his players for references they were intensely negative, apparently no one was willing to support him or co-sign on his quality and ability to lead players. Being a dick can work in the NFL where everyone's getting paid millions and it's a highly competitive environment but in college that's failed repeatedly, it has a short shelf-life before it burns everyone out.

How do you know ANY of this? His former Chiefs players have praised him to the point he was brought in to talk with them before the Super Bowl. Maurice Drew has praised him from his time at UCLA, so unless you know for a fact that all your innuendos are true, please share your source! And how was he responsible for the scandal? Because of his position?
What are your thoughts on Marshawn? His DUI video was all over the internet, and we put him in the HOF a month later.

The sad reality is many of our sports heroes are either scumbags or do incredibly accurate impersonations of a scumbag.

  • We fired Ron Gould in order to hire an "upstanding" RB coach who turned out to love hiring w-hores.
  • The only issue in our recent coaching search about Jason Kidd was "we will never be able to get him." Nothing about the DV.
  • We have Marshawn as a collective advisor, even though he has had really, really bad drunk driving and gun convictions.
  • For some reason we have DeSean as a collective advisor, even though most HS kids don't remember him as a player and he has made terrible antisemitic statements.
  • We have recent players who have gone to jail for insider trading and defrauding the elderly. I still wish them the best going forward.
  • Aaron Rodgers has repeatedly lied about Cal's academics and a bunch of other stuff.

It is sad, but we don't like these people because they are good human beings. We like them because they were/are good at playing and coaching college football.
